3 Things Christ Is and Did
3 of the many things Christ is and did for us.
Revelation 1:5-6 – The Word of God bears witness to the truth of the word of God.
This passage of Scripture is addressed to the seven churches of Asia Minor; therefore it is addressed to us as well. This morning we will consider 6 truths of Christ, 3 truths that He did and 3 truths that He is.
3 Things Christ is:
1. The Faithful Witness
a. Isaiah 55:1-4
b. Psalm 89:36-37
c. Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
2. The First Begotten of the dead
a. Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
3. The Prince of the kings of the earth
a. Revelation 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
3 Things Christ did:
1. He loved us
a. Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13. Then He did.
b. Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
c. To know the love of God is to first know the price – John 3:16.
2. He washed us from our sins
a. “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:14. It’s that kind of washing – a purging of sins.
b. Equal to the washing is the purchasing – “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” Acts 20:28
3. He made us
a. Kings and Priest – Therefore, be ye holy… act Kingly, act Priestly.
b. Leviticus 20:7 / 26
All glory to Christ! – “to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen”
That’s who Christ is and what He has done for us, but who are we and what have we done for Him?
Well, again, we are Kings and Priest as well as (according to Ephesians 1) children of God… But what have we done for Him?
· We are to be know by our fruit – how’s your fruit looking?
o Matthew 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Is your fruit good or is it bad?
· The Bible says that the seed that fell into good ground “brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.” Matthew 13:8.
· READ John 15:1-8 – is there enough fruit in your life to convict you of being Christ’s disciple?
