What Is That To You? Follow Jesus!
What Is That To You? Follow Jesus!
20 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” 21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”
22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”
Introduction
Introduction
When we follow Jesus, it requires us to take up our cross.
Taking up our cross requires us to leave some things behind, mainly our emotions and trivial concerns and…
We have to avoid distractions and meddling in the affairs of others.
Peter became concerned about another disciple and this would’ve caused him to be distracted if Jesus had not corrected him.
Jesus and Peter
Jesus and Peter
Jesus had restored Peter and was about to release him for a great assignment of apostleship in the first church.
Jesus had just told Peter the way he would die and told Peter to follow him.
I can see them walking together and Jesus talking to him about the upcoming days and years of Peter’s life. I can hear Jesus giving Peter instruction.
Then Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved (John) and asked Jesus about him. “And Lord, what about this man?
Now Peter is following Jesus so he is probably walking beside Jesus, or behind Him.
The text tells us Peter turned around and saw John which means Peter took his focus off Jesus and placed it on John.
John became a distraction to Peter.
Distractions can happen to any of us from the seasoned saint to the newly converted saint.
Distractions will come at a crucial time when we really need to be focused on our Savior.
Undivided Attention
Undivided Attention
Jesus wants our undivided attention.
We’re living in a time where we really need to pay attention.
Wars, rumors of wars, famine, sickness, failing economies and persecutions.
We can’t be focused on the news reports. We can’t afford to be distracted by anything.
We can’t be like Peter watching someone else’s relationship with Christ.
We all know that being nosey is one of the distractions in the church. Some of us are more concerned about what others are doing instead of being focused on what the Lord is doing for us and in us!
Some of us have fasted, prayed, prayed, and fasted. Sometimes it seems God has forgotten about us. We serve a God who isn’t a respecter of persons and your time is coming. Your season is almost here so keep following Jesus!
Peter took his focus off Jesus at a crucial time. Right when he was about to be elevated to an apostolic ministry.
Some of us are at a crucial and pivotable time in our lives and relationship with Christ. Stay focused!
