A. John was glad that some were walking in the truth. Not all. Not everyone that goes to church is saved. Billy Graham said up to 70-80% of churchgoers weren’t saved.
B. The way to tell is that we love one another. If we’re quarrelsome, then you have reason to doubt. Are they stirring the pot and not defending someone else?
C. Are they following Jesus’ commands from a loving heart? Or are they doing it to look the part, or they have a guilt complex.
II. Walk Carefully vs. 7-13
A. There are many who look the part, but their beliefs are different. (Mormon, Word of Faith etc.)
B. Be on guard. Help believers understand lovingly. Make sure the warning is scriptural, and not your opinon. (Tough love).
C. The most loving thing is to avoid them, don’t host them.
D. John wanted to say more face to face. Some things, just need to be said face to face.
