Introduction

The voice we drop into when we talk to kids vs adults.
Embarrassing when you get those two mixed up.
The added stress for parents, especially moms.
Conversations about the struggle of loneliness and craving for interaction with other adults.
I think sometimes there is just a need to be recognized, to be known.
For all of us, we can take comfort that God knows you.

You Are Known.

vv. 1-6
God is omniscient.
He has always known everything about your life!
But, this passage tells us God knows you because He has taken the time to know you.
“Searched” = examine. Your spouse, your boss, and your doctor would all give very different answers when asked to talk about you.
To Know = to know by experience. This isn’t just a theoretical or hypothetical knowledge of someone.
God knows every fear and frustration you’ve ever experienced.
He even knows your inner thoughts (v. 4).
Because He already knows, you don’t have to hide yourself from Him.
God values knowing you.
This knowledge leads to His compassion and care for you (v. 5).
Cattle chute - does much more than restrain the cattle, it relaxes them as the sides press in on them.
You are known and loved by God.

You Are Found.

vv. 7-12
The three layers of creation: Heaven (above) where God resides, the earth (middle) where living people reside, and sheol (below) where the dead reside.
Represents the totality of existence!
Even the sea is listed - as the place of chaos and evil.
God is present with us in all places and circumstances.
It does not matter how far you have run from God, He is still present with you.
The imagery of light and darkness. They do not co-exist.
The though of God existing in the darkness would be ludicrous!
Yet, there He is, not just going into the darkness to find you, but turning darkness to light.
Whatever darkness you may be experiencing, know that you are not alone in it.
We cannot see in the dark, but you are seen.
You are seen and you are found by the one who has overcome darkness because He is the light.

You Are Formed.

vv. 13-16
We affirm the sanctity of human life because Scripture tells us a few things about it.
First, that it is God who ultimately oversaw your conception (v. 14 “wonderfully made”).
That means there are no mistakes and there is no junk. Each child is precious to God. “Knitted.”
As a fetus, God saw you as a person and...
Every person has a purpose in life.
Speaking to the women who we are honoring today:
Some to be biological moms, some to be moms by other methods.
Some of you will serve as spiritual moms, being supportive of those younger in the faith than you.
Every woman in this room can be and should be a woman of influence.
Every woman can be a woman of influence.
And despite God’s holiness and our sin...
God chooses you.

Conclusion

The final verses:
Psalm 139:23–24 ESV
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
God not only knows where you are right now,
and God loves who you are right now.
But God has a plan for your life and for eternity.
Trust the One who knows you enough to find you in your lostness.
Luke 15 - the three parables of the lost things.
99 / 1 Sheep. 9 / 1 Coins. 2 lost brothers.
In each of these, the owner of the lost items engages in seeking that which has been lost.
Luke 15:4 ESV
4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?
Luke 15:8 ESV
8 “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?
Luke 15:20 ESV
20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
Luke 15:28 ESV
28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,
God pursues.
You are worth pursuing.
