The relationship that halves our sorrows and doubles our joys

Friendship in Action #1: Love

Proverbs 17:17 ESV
17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

A shelter in the Storm, A Strong tower

Love is to give up looking only at what I want in a situation and looking out for them.
As you both understand your identity in Christ. Are you safe? And are you truthful?

Consider: Jonathan & David

Jonathan loved him, even though David was going to take his rightful place on the throne. He protects him even to the point to the end.
John 15:12–14 ESV
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.

Friendship in Action: #2 Fight

Comrades in Arms

They have each others back, and if they don’t someone gets hurt.
To the common goal of knowing and loving Jesus
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 ESV
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Proverbs 27:9 ESV
9 Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.
Our ability to fight for our friends is based on our ability to do Action 1

Consider: Job’s “Friends”

Friendship in Action: #3 Sharpening

Sharpening Wheel

Proverbs 27:17 ESV
17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Ecclesiastes 10:10 ESV
10 If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, he must use more strength, but wisdom helps one to succeed.
What kind of things do you bring up in your friendships?
Based on how well we love them and fight for them

Consider: Aaron, Ryan & Daniel

Friendship in Action #4: Warn

Guard Rail

Proverbs 27:5–6 ESV
5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Based on how well we do the other things

Consider: Jesus

Woman caught in adultery
