The sobering reality of man
The sobering reality of man
By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”
All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.
At first, considering that all of us are from dust, and will ultimately return to dust is perhaps not particularly comforting. But what this does make clear is that we are all on equal footing. People may enjoy certain temporary advantages over others in this life, but we are all crated by God, we are all under the sovereign rule of God, and we will all leave this world according to His design
But as we gather here together beside Harry’s grave, consider
The glorious reality of the redemption of Jesus
The glorious reality of the redemption of Jesus
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
So, while all of us are from dust and will ultimately return to dust, the death of our bodies does not have the final say. Thanks be to God, Carol came to profess this understanding about her life and about what Jesus accomplished for her. Those who have placed their faith in Christ alone for the forgiveness of their sins do not dread the grave. The grave marks the beginning of their resurrected lives.
And so, we will conclude this internment by hearing the words of John in his revelation from God
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”
