What It Means to Be Saved
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SAVED
TEXT Acts 16:30-31
INTRODUCTION: The word saved appears 58 times in the New Testament. Yet I dare say that there are good church members who have never heard the word saved spoken from the pulpit in their church, even though they have attended there for years. Saved means delivered and preserved. It describes what happens when God translates a sinner from the realm of the lost into the realm of the saved. To be saved encompasses all that God does for a person when that person trusts the Lord Jesus as Saviour.
I. SAVED FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN
A. The origin of sin
1. Violation of the law of God
2. God said not to eat of the forbidden fruit
3. Satan said it was OK
4. Through the sin of Adam we are all sinners
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
B. The penalty of sin is enmity with God
1. Salvation from the penalty of sin means peace with God
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2. We also have the wonderful peace of heart
C. The penalty of sin is physical death
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1. All must face a physical death unless they are living at the coming of the Lord.
2. This is a part of the penalty for sin.
D. The penalty of sin is spiritual death
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die...
E. Christ died to save us from the penalty of sin
Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
II. SAVED FROM THE POWER OF SIN
A. The chains of sin so powerfully bind the lost man and woman that they are a slave to sin=s power.
John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

2. Money, Gambling
B. The Lord Jesus cancels the condemnation, breaks sin=s fetters, delivers the sinner from the dungeon and sets him at liberty.
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

III. SAVED FROM THE PRESENCE OF SIN
A. The Lord Jesus has promised that those He saves will spend eternity with Him
John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
B. The body of the Christian will be resurrected from the dead
John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
C. The Christians glorified body will be forever rid of the sin nature
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
D. The Christian will be rid of the influence and presence of sin for in that eternal dwelling place, sin will not be able to enter.
Revelation 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

To be saved you must believe on the Lord
If you are saved you should serve the Lord your Saviour
