How To Honor Your Mother
Wasn't for Mother's Day. You know, it's cold when you see your breath, when you go outside on Mother's Day. I tell you, it's cold. For sure. If you are here visiting for the first time, you say a little car like this in front of you, probably staring at your knees in the future. If you could get one of those and fill that out, you say well, I don't want to write that much. It's too much right? Just put your name and number and email on there. That's all you have to do. And then on your way out, if you'll just leave it on, the vegetables will be just want to record of your attendance. The day will happy Mother's Day to all the mothers. It's a good day and what I'm going to ask now. If the mothers would stand please, if you can, we just want to recognize all the mothers that are here today. So, would all the mothers stand, please.
Alright, let's see about all the moms a hand today or what or what they mean. So am I on Viki? I guess I am. Okay. All right. All right, you can be seated. Thank you so much for being here today. Well, today, I was thinking about this week. Well, what can I say about the moms? And so, what I want to do today is to show you. How we can honor our mothers. And that's the title of today's message, how to honor your mother bringing joy to Mom. So if you have your Bibles, I want you to turn to Exodus please, the book of Exodus. Chapter 20. That's the second book in the Bible Genesis, and then Exodus. Exodus chapter 20 and we going to look at 1 verse.
And that is verse 12. And this is what the Bible says. Honor your father and your mother that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God. Is giving you. That was an evangelist by the name of d.l. Moody. He was kinda, he was kind of like Billy Graham in his time and he made a statement. I was reading about his life this past week and he made a statement and this is what he said. He says I have lived over 60 years and I have learned one thing if I have learned nothing else. No, man, or woman who dishonors his father or mother ever prosperous? That's exactly what he said in the Bible here and we are talkin about the tank. What I just read was one of the Ten, Commandment says here to honor your father and mother that your days may be long. Now this pin commandant here and sometimes we just look at Mother's Day. It occurs once a year is kind of like a birthday. It's kind of like Christmas is kind of like Easter. We just celebrate it once a year in, so, but this is not merely a Sentimental day. Mothers Mother's Day is biblical. You see the Bible says, we are to honor our father and mother and Mother's Day is just a token of that honor. I want you to think of this, every single one of us here today. The first relationship we ever develop was with our mothers, you know, that that was the first relationship that you ever develop. How me, and you mom's here when you are pregnant. You talk to your baby. You read to your baby in the womb. You prayed for your baby in the womb? You sang to your baby. You see that was the first relationship that every single one of us had talkin to and nurturing the baby in the womb. And sometimes we take for granted these structures that God has created to such an extent where we just think, what, you know, it's nice that babies come from mothers or it's nice that women mothers nurture their children, and we just kind of leave it at that, but we need to consider this fact this morning that God's glory is demonstrated. In the right order of creation. This is how God created you under the right circumstances in the right way. A baby begins to develop in that womb until that baby is born. And once that baby is born, that baby is still absolutely unconditionally, fundamentally dependent on the nurture and care of that mother. That's what that baby is dependent upon. In friends in our culture today many people say well what it is. It's a pregnant person. No, it's not a pregnant person. It's a pregnant mother. It is a woman. It is a mother is what it is and I just think about this. Jesus. God himself came to this earth in the Incarnation. He never had a, he never had a Earthly. Father, as far as conception. But he had an Earthly mother. And she took care of him. She carried him. She gave birth to him. He was just like us. He couldn't feed himself. He couldn't help himself. He had a mother that took care of him. And what did Jesus tell? John as he was hanging on the cross. John, you take care of my mother. You take care of my mother. Well, I want to give you four ways today. That you can honor your mother and not just on Mother's Day. I'm talkin about all days of your entire life. Matter fact, when we look at this, we going to honor our mothers in past. I'm in present time and future time. And in all time, four ways that you can do that number one. We can honor our mothers in pastime. Bible lessons you learned. By the lessons, you learned not to look at it in Proverbs 1 verse 8 and 9. My son hear the instruction of your father. And do not forsake the law of your mother and inverse night. For they will be a graceful ornament on your head and change about your nephew, you know, something I have figured out. That the older you become. The smarter, your parents become if you ever figure that out. You remember how crazy your parents seem to be when you were little, it just seemed like that. They were just kind of crazy. You know, how I remember when my mama used to work. And I was probably five or six years old. She would come back from work and every day, she would bring me a Reese's cup to stop at the store right there where she works. And she bring me a Reese's cup. You know what? I used to think. I should think I've been in that store before and every time I go in there, there's a whole box of Reese's Cups. Why don't she bring them all? They're not that expensive, but she would just bring me one and I didn't understand that. And I've heard other people say that when they were small their mother and father used to be in the kitchen, then sat around. And they would just talk all the time in. The fellow said, I didn't understand. Why didn't they want to go out and play like I did. He didn't understand why they just wanted to talk all the time, you know, or take a nap. Why would any other day? You can be outside playing and things like that. But you know, when you're 16, you really think your parents about an hour out of it. And then when you're 19 or 20, you know that you have some surpassed your parents in knowledge and wisdom and then when you're twenty-two or twenty-three, it's just like they're just way about their they're just out of it. But then all the sudden you turned 35 or 40, You look at your parents and you think they're perfect. The older we get the smarter our parents yet. I have something I want to read to you today. It's a little article that I found this written by lady. She was about 35 years old when she wrote this, and she wrote this about her mother. And as I read this, I want you to think of the lessons. But you learned also from your mother. Now, the title of this. Is the meanest mother in the whole world? I want to let his kind of laughing, but I'll read fast. But as I read this, I want you to think of the lessons that you learned. I had the meanest mother in the whole world while other kids ate Candy for breakfast. I had to have cereal eggs and fruit. Remember that don't, you couldn't have all the donuts you want it. You had to have something to help when others have Cokes and candy for lunch. I had to eat vegetable and you can guess my supper was different than the other kids also, but at least I wasn't alone in my sufferings, my sister and two brothers had the same mean, mother is. I did my mother insisted upon knowing where we were at all times. You would think we were on the Chain Gang. She had to know when our friends, where I had to know who our friends were and where we were going. She and she insisted if we said we'd be gone an hour that we would be gone. 1 hour or less. Not one hour and one minute. And I am nearly a shame to Made it but she actually whipped us not once but each time that we had the mind of our own and did what we please the poor belt would use more on our seats than it was to hold up. Daddy's plants. Can you imagine someone actually spanking a child? Just because he disobeyed? Now you can begin to see how mean she really was. We had to wear clean clothes and take a bath of the kids always were closed for 2 or 3 days in a row and then we reached the height of in so because she made our clothes herself. And made us wear them. Why? Oh, why did we have a mother who made us feel different from our friends. The worst is yet to come, we had to be in bed by 9. He's not even up at 8. The next morning. We couldn't sleep till noon, like her friends. So, while they slept my mother actually had the nerve to break the child labor law. She made us work. We had to wash dishes, make beds, learn to cook and all sorts of cool thing. I believe that she lay awake at night, thinking of mean things to do. She always insisted upon telling the truth. The whole truth, nothing, but the truth, even if it killed us and it nearly did, by the time we were teenagers, she was much wiser and our life became even more unbearable. None of this tooting, the Horn of a car for us to come running. She embarrass us to no end by making our dates and friends come to the door and get up. If I spend the night with the girlfriend, can you imagine she checked on me to see if I was really there? I never had the chance to elope to Mexico. That is, if I had a boyfriend to elope with, I forgot to mention that. While my friends were dating at 13, my old fashioned mother refused to let me date until I was 17. And then she says, Through The Years things didn't improve a bit. We cannot lie in bed sick, like her friends did to miss school. If our friends had a toe ache, a hangnail or serious ailment. They could stay home from school or marks in school. Had to be up to par. Our friends report. Cards. Have beautiful colors of black and red on them. But my mother being a different if she was would settle for nothing less than ugly black marks. Then she said as the years Roll by first one and then the other of us were put to shame. We graduated from high school or mother behind us, talkin Heating, and demanding respect. None of us allowed the pleasure of being a Dropout. My mother was a complete failure as a mother out of all the children, a couple of us attain higher education. None of us ever were arrested divorce or beaten his mate. Each of my brother served his time in the service of the country. And whom do we have to blame for this terrible way? We turned out your right arm mean mother, look at the things we missed. We never got to Mars. Protest parade. Take part in a right or burn down the city nor me, and one other things that are friends. Did she Force us to grow up into God-fearing educated? Honest adults? Using this is the background. I'm trying to raise my three children. I stand a little taller. And I'm filled with pride, when my children call me mean, because you see, I think God, he gave me the meanest mother in the whole world, the meanest month. Well, you know, America needs more mean mothers. And what I mean by that is mothers who mean business with God because when you mean business will God God will mean business with you. You honor your mother by the lessons. You've learned in the Bible says, when you do, it'll be like a ornament of Grace around your neck number 2. That was in past. I've been past time, you honor your mother by Lessons Learned. Secondly, and present time you honor your mother by the life you live. I want you to look at it in a fission 6. One through three children. Obey your parents in the Lord for this is right, honor, your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise.
But it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth friends. You want to want me to tell you a good way to shorten your life. Dishonor, your parents, that would be a good way if you want to do, if you want to shorten your life. Every child should have a door sign hanging in their bedroom as they go in saying, warning disability parents could be harmful to your health. That's exactly what the Bible is saying here. Honor your father and your mother. This is the first commandment with a promise. Now, the word honor that we read in Exodus comes from a word that means to add weight to That's up to you, mothers out here saying, why don't need any weight. I don't want to add any weight will. What that mean literally means is to take your parents. Seriously. It means that this is a weighty matter matter to God that we are to add dignity and respect to who they are. So say well in what way do you talk about in the way? I live my life. How can I honor my mother by the way? I live. Number one. You can show them respect. You can show your parents, especially your mother respect. We don't have this scripture here for the board. Let me read it to you. This is what proverbs 30 verse 17 says that I didn't mock it at his father and despises to a bay, his mother, the Ravens of the valley. She'll pick it out and the young Eagle she'll eat it. Think about that the person who despises his mother and father says the birds will eat your. I know the Bible using figurative language here with what God is saying is it is a terrible thing not to reverence your mother and your father that you may say will preacher. You don't understand. My parents aren't worthy of respect. We're friends. Let me tell you this. Your parents are not perfect. Do you know that? That's a all the young people don't like that? Yeah. I know your parents are not perfect. But the only perfect person who has Who can ask for a perfect? Parent is a perfect child. So how many perfect children do we have in here? How many of you were perfect? When you were a child? None of us are parents aren't perfect and we are not perfect, you know, and I've often wondered. Two of the most difficult times in life. Is middle-aged and teenage and for some reason God brought both of them together with parents and children. Those are two of the hardest times and he brought them together and let me ask you this, you know parents and children like to go at it and fight if you ever wondered why grandparents and grandchildren get along so well. But parents and children, don't well, grandparents and grandchildren, get along so well, because I have the same enemy, the same enemy of your parents aren't perfect. But you should, reverence, and respect. Today, your mother. You should do that. There's another way you need to express gratefulness. Give your mother give your parents. Thanks, learn to develop an attitude of gratitude. That was a lady. I was reading a story about she was around 30 years old, and she grew up, and as a sink in a single-parent home, with just her mother. And her mother was not saved. But yet she provided for that child and paid her way and had a home there for shelter. Overhead, fetter. Always do anything for Center off the school. In the college, paid for her education, with this young lady wanted to witness to her mother. And every time she would witness, she would witness in such a way. That her mother felt like that. She had failed her and she would witness to a mother. Say, if you have been saved, we could have done this and we would have gone to church and we would have done this. And she made her feel like she was afraid. And one day the Lord spoke to her heart and said you write your mother, a thank you note for what she did and she said she sat down and sent her mother a note and thank her for all the good things that she had done for her and the next time she went to visit her. She started witnessing to her and the mother accepted Christ. Because she was thankful. She didn't make her feel like a failure show, respect for your mother and be thankful for your mother. Something else Mother and Father Here, listen to their counsel. I know when you 13 14 15, we know everything at that time, but you say, why should I listen to him? Well, think about this, you ever bought a car. You ever taken out a loan at 13 years old, know your parents. Have you ever had a mortgage at 1415 or 60? Know your parents have about dating and relationship? Who should I date? Who should I go to the promise? What are some of the boundary? Do you know them automatically know? You, don't your mom and dad either? They've, they've experienced it. That's why we have gray hair. We have gray hair because we're wise either that or we have gray hair because you worried us to that. It's one of the other, but be sure to listen to their Council. Many times will listen to anybody else but our parents, your parents love you, your parents. You have their lifeblood flowing and you. They're not going to tell you something that's going to hurt you. They're only going to tell you things that will help you. If you can honor your parents in the present time by the life, you live by being respectful by being grateful and by listening to wise counsel, live in such a way that it will make your parents stick out their chests a little bit, not in bad Pride, but just be able to say, I think God for my children, children are extensions of their parents. And when you do, when you see your children do well, when you see them winning award, when you see them do something that pleases you that brings Joy to the heart of a mother. I know many times Mark has told me. Why? So, and so at the store and they saw Jacob and Craig and they just went on about how nice they were and just nice young gentleman and how polite there. And that just tickle her to death. And I'm sitting there. So, yeah, but who won the game? Who won the game or something? That's what I wanted to know about her. Know what she cared about. Was these young boys here. Everybody thinks that they're the nicest young men, that makes a proud respect. Your parents be grateful and listen to their Council. So what are we said, so far in pass time when you're small You on your mother by the lessons you learn? In present time as you grow up, to be a teenager and even get married and have children of your own, you honor your parents by the life that you live number 3. And now we go to Future toy. In the future and future time. You honor your mother. By the load you lift. You said, what are you talking about? I'm not moving furniture for or something like that. Well, it could be. I want you to look at 1st. Timothy 5, and verse for the listen to this. But if any Widow has children or grandchildren. Let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents for this is good and acceptable. Before God. What is this talking about? Simply this? When your parents get old? And they can't do for themselves. Like they used to it is up to the children and grandchildren to take care of them. By the load that you live the Bible teaches this. Now we live in a culture now where it's like people just failed to care for their older parents. They just leave them out to die. And as a society we are becoming more and more hardened, more and more. He even like we become hard-hearted toward people that we ought to love and our parents friends. We live in a culture of death. Our culture would rather take the life of a baby in the womb and then when we get old and decrepit, just go ahead and get a doctor to help you commit suicide, just get rid of them. If we don't want. That's what that's our culture today. In the Bible says, if you have a mother or father that may be alone. The other one, the spouse is passed on. It is up to the children and grandchildren to take care of them to look after them. You say, yeah, but every time I go over there, they fall when I have to help them up when I mean time to help you up. When you were small, yeah, but you don't understand, they can't even feed ourselves and they get their food in their hand shaking, and it drops. I have to feed them. Well, thank God. You had a mother that fed you. When you were small. the Bible says, Well, let's see what the Bible says. Look at this. 58 1st, Timothy 5:8. but if anyone does not provide for his own and especially those for his household. He has denied the faith. And is worse than an unbeliever? Now, people read that birthday and they say, yeah, but what that's talkin about that's talkin about a dad. If he just so lazy and he won't work. Let's talk about it. And do you have to understand the context here? This is not talkin about that. This right here is talking about children should provide for their parents. Remember what 1st Timothy 5 for set? The contacts is children providing for parents and it says, if the children will not provide for their own parents and grandparents. He has denied the faith and he's worse than an unbeliever. Think about those who go to church every week who say, they love the Lord Jesus, and they give money and they sing in the choir and they teeth. And yet they allow their parents to suffer at home alone. They're worse than an unbeliever. They're not even up to the level of an unbeliever. He said you were worse than a non-believer, friends list the religion that you have. If it doesn't begin at home, it doesn't begin. You have to take care of your own. If something happens in your family, something happened to my family. It is my obligation to take care of my family. Before I do any church work before I preach any sermon. I need to take care of my family. So, Says you have departed from the faith and you're worse than an unbeliever. So, friends list if you had a l, if you have elderly parents, or maybe just one. You need to go visit them. You need to pick up that phone and call him. Do you live a long ways away? You need to write that letter today. I had a man, tell me one time, we were talking about this and he said, well, he said we just don't have time to go over there much. He said, but here's what we going to do. He said, when my mama dies, we going to give her a lavish funeral. I said, really you going to spend all that money. And you trying to honor your mother while she's laying there in that casket, you know, the old saying. Dead noses can't smell the roses.
So, if your parents are alive today. You go today and honor them. Don't wait till they die. You can't do that number for will close. So he said, past, not your honor your mother by the lessons. You learned present time. You honor your mother by the life you live and in future, you honor your mother by the load, you live by taking care of. And then here's the last night in all times past present future in all times. You honor your mother by the Lord You Love. Think of course, you're supposed to love your parent for the great. Love their life. Blood flows in you. They're very life is in US. Yes. You should do that. But what would honor your mother more? Then to see. Their children give their life to the Lord. What would honor a mother more? Look at 3rd, John chapter 4. I have no Greater Joy. Then to hear that my children Walk In Truth. No Greater Joy for a mother than to hear that. Their children walk in truth. How many of you mothers? Have paced the floor at midnight. Wondering about your children if they're safe, if they're out and doing the things that they supposed to do. How many hours have you spent on your knees? Praying for your children? Grandchildren great-grandchildren? That they would see the light that something would happen. And that the Lord would rip their heart. I bet every single mother in here has prayed that prayer, you see the greatest contempt, the greatest piece. The greatest joy, that a mother could have is to know that their children will spend eternity with cheese. That's the greatest. No other Joy. Is greater than that. And that one day, they'll be a reunions, a family reunions In Heaven. There Is No Greater Joy than to hear that. My children walk in truth. You know, I was thinking this week. The closest thing on earth. That we have to the love of God. Is the love that a mother has for her children?
That's the closest thing. But look at this. How do you only mother date? Pastime how lessons you learn when you're young? Present time. How you on your life? You live? Future time. How do you honor your mother load you lift and it all time by the Lord you love. Now. I have spent my entire 30 minutes today, I believe. Talkin to Children, grandchildren. In great G. About how to honor your mother. So, I'm going to stay in the next 1 minute. 1 minute and a half. Just speaking to you mothers. Now, you have to understand the day. That we live in unprecedented times.
We're Satan and our culture. They have every bit of their artillery. Aimed at the family. Our culture is trying to destroy. The very Foundation that our society was built upon and that is marriage and the family. This is what I want to say to you mothers.
Do not allow.
This Godless culture. And do not allow. This radical secular feminism. That is spreading a call across our nation. Do not allow them to steal. Your joy. Of Womanhood. Or motherhood. Because that's exactly what they're trying to do. You say you mothers. You ought not to be home. Keeping a house and raising children. What you have to do is you ought to go out and you don't be a CEO or see if over some company. You say, what you need to do is you need to show me in that, you can do the same thing that they can. You see the culture is putting us in competition, between husband and wife. That's why you see women in WFC fighting just like me. And that's why you see women playing football. This is not just something that you do because I want to do what boys do know, this is an ideology that that the secular culture has. They want us to see that there's no difference between men and women. None whatsoever. Women can do the same thing that me and can't. Well they can't they can't go out and get a job and that's fine. And it's okay. If you're a woman to have a career. It's okay to be a CEO and CFO, but not at the expense of nurturing, your children. That's what I'm saying, but culture, they, they will not allow a woman if you stay home and want to raise your children for Jesus, then you're just absolutely stupid and crazy according to culture. You say yes, men and women are equal. Yes. We are equal in value and Worth to God, but we are different in our function and our roles. If this is the way God has created, it don't allow culture or radical feminism. Who robbed you of your Womanhood and motherhood, our culture today? Would applaud you ladies out there.
For murdering a baby in the womb more so than if you raise the child for Jesus. I think about that you would be uploaded. For that. Don't allow culture to rob you of your motherhood and Womanhood. And if you want to nurture these children, the way that you should, God will reward you on Earth. And there will be a crown awaiting you in heaven. And all the mom said. Let's pray. Father. We thank you and praise you. Love you today, Lord for who you are. Lord. We thank you for each mother. That's here today. Or we thank you for the lessons that we learn from them. Lord. We thank you that. We might have had a mean mama. But they told us to live, right? The live a life that would bring honor to them, but also to you. So Lord, help us to honor them by the life. We live by the lessons, we learn. And Lord as the days go by.
The load. We lift help us to care for and to do for him exactly the way they did for us and Lord help us all here. There's anyone hears not know you today will be the day of their salvation where we can learn to love you the way that we should force in Christ's name. I pray. Amen. All right. Well, thank you for being here today. Remember, if you'd fill out that card, if you have?
