God’s righteousness is God’s gift to man
God’s righteousness is God’s gift to man
We are now on week three of an introduction into the book of Romans, the righteousness of God revealed.
If you get, can grasp Romans, than God gets you for you will understand what He offers and what You get when you accept His offer.
The book is split into several easy to see sections.
Introduction to the righteousness of God (1:1-17)
The Righteousness proclaimed (1:18-3:20)
The Righteousness presented (3:21-5:21)
The Righteousness perfected (6:1-8:39)
The Righteousness purposed (9:1-11:36)
The Righteousness performed (12:1-15:13)

(Transition) In Rom3:10 it says Rom3:10 “10 as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one;” Later paul says 2Cor5:21 “21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
So, through Jesus the Righteous One (ref: 1Jn2:1) we have accesses to become the righteousness of God. This great book is all about God and His righteousness and that relationship with the believer.
So, in short here is what I hope we cover this morning in our last part of our introduction to Romans, the Righteousness of God
God’s righteousness

God’s greatest gift is love, is the Son. Followed by the Spirit to those who believe which imparts godly righteousness, not a righteousness of our own, but His!
Righteousness given, for righteousness needed (Rom3:10)
we have no righteousness of our own
10 as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one;
Righteousness given needs to be righteousness confessed (Rom10:3-10)
The Jews had their own form of righteousness and refused to to subject themselves to righteousness of God (v.3-4)
The righteousness of God is available to all who believe (v.4)
A righteousness based on faith (v.6-8)
Should then be confessed
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
What brings the righteousness as noted in (v.10)? And what are the results?
Righteousness given only comes through the giver, Jesus (Gal2:21)
21 “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”
For you received that righteousness when you were saved by faith through grace (Eph2:8-9; Tit3:4-7)
For by grace you are saved by faith
By the washing and regeneration of the Holy Spirit
So, be wrapped in God’s righteousness (Isa61:10)
10 I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
It was a present tense understanding to Isaiah; He knew the promise of being washed white as snow! It is a present tense for us today who believe! So, be wrapped in the robe of righteousness!
That song I mentioned earlier and gave the first verse of it, well the next verse is the same but it is about righteousness, we want it, God has it and wants us to have it. The chorus of the song says this:
So, take my heart and mold it
Take my mind, transform it
Take my will, conform it
To Your, To Yours, Oh Lord
(Transition) God’s gift of righteousness to man that saves man starts to change us to we desire what He desires.
God’s righteousness revealed
God’s righteousness revealed
God’s righteousness has been revealed, and by its revelation there are many benefits.
Revealed historically through deliverance from bondage in Egypt.
Revealed through Jesus being handed over (Rom4:25)
Rom4:25 “25 He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.”
Revealed through the Gospel (Rom1:16-17)
Rom1:16-17 “16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.””
Revealed so that grace may reign in righteousness (Rom5:17)
rom5:17 “17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”
That righteousness may reign in Jesus Christ (Rom5:21)
rom5:21 “21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Righteousness revealed by redemption through Jesus Christ (Rom3:23-24)
Rom3:23-24 “23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;”
And it is free gift (Rom6:23)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Transition) this revealed righteousness is made possible by God through Jesus by faith.

The revealed available righteousness is through faith.
Our faith is objective, and the object is faith in Jesus Christ
Something to ponder, what does your faith look like, is your faith evident?
Our faith has a principle - it excludes boasting (Rom3:27-31; Rom4:45; Rom9:30-33)
27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. 28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.
29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.
31 Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.
You cannot work yourself into righteousness
4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. 5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,
Righteousness is only by faith, not by works
30 What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith; 31 but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law.
32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 just as it is written, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
Without the righteousness of God received through faith, we are lost and separated from God
One more passage to consider this morning and let’s look together, turn to Rom10.
1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. 2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.
3 For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
What is Paul’s heart desire (v.1)?
What is the problem Paul identifies (vv.2-3)?
What is the requirement for righteousness (v.4)?
As we are going to continue to look at the righteousness of God through book of Romans so that we can be God’s righteousness to the world may we look in the mirror to start and be willing to acknowledge your own brokenness outside of Christ and evaluate your place in Christ and what you are going to do with it.

It is foundational, it is instrumental, it is needed and it is provided. Here are a few things to consider when it comes to God’s righteousness.
It is the foundation of our faith (2Pt1:1)
1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:
It is something worth pursuing (1Tim6:11)
11 But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.
It endures forever (2Cor9:8-10)
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; 9 as it is written, “He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor, His righteousness endures forever.” 10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness;
Oh, don’t miss the fact that it makes it possible for by your sowing it will increase your harvest of your righteousness!
It is what we hope and wait for (Gal5:5)
5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.
It is the kingdom of God (Rom14:17)
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
This is more than peace that the world offers, absence of conflict, but God’s peace, God’s righteousness that is imputed on the believer. This is our joy, in the Holy Spirit! This heavenly assurance.
(transition) we can have faith in many different things (relationships, money, prestige, position) but only the righteousness of God will get you into heaven. It is only “the” faith that gets you there, and that is vitally and eternally important so may we now look at God’s righteousness and the believer.
