Introduction
Introduction
Today we are celebrating mothers.
Where would we be without our mothers?
Today We celebrate living mothers and the mothers who have transitioned.
I celebrate my mother the late Martha Faye Jordan.
We celebrate the mothers who are imparting and have imparted faith and wisdom into their children and someone else’s children.
We celebrate grandmothers, mothers, step-mothers and “bonus” mothers. Bonus mothers are the ones who have taken the time with children that aren’t their’s.
Mothers are good at preparing the children and husband to be presentable to the public.
In most cases we can even form an opinion of a mother’s personality based on how her children look and act when they are in public.
Lois, Eunice and Timothy are our focus in the message today.
Our text is a portion of the epistle (letter) Paul wrote to Timothy to encourage him in the work.
Lois and Eunice
Lois and Eunice
Lois and Eunice were the grandmother and mother of Timothy.
Apparently they passed down genuine faith to Timothy.
Genuine faith is unfeigned, unchangeable and unhypocritical…
This genuine faith was noticed by Paul in such a way that he remembered them and discerned the same faith that was in them is now in Timothy.
Timothy
Timothy
Timothy was a young co-laborer of Paul in the ministry.
He was the son of a Greek father and a Jewish mother.
The bible doesn’t mention if his father was ever saved, so there may have been some conflict from time to time in their household. But Timothy chose Jesus.
Paul called him his “true son in the faith” in 1 Timothy 1:2.
Paul probably meant it on this wise; “Son, the same faith I see in you is the same faith I saw in your grandmother and mother.
Paul Was Persuaded
Paul Was Persuaded
To be persuaded is to be fully convinced.
Paul was fully convinced Timothy had what it took to do the work of ministry because of what he saw in Lois and Eunice, and how it impacted Timothy’s life.
We celebrate the mothers who sometimes move quietly in the background but are noticed when someone looks at their children and how they behave…
Im not saying we’re better than others but you know when a child has been raised in the way they should go. Even in their folly, you know somebody is teaching them right.
When I was in my teen years I would dip around the corner and…
Conclusion
Conclusion
Sometimes I feel discouraged. And when those times come, I might think about mother who was a woman of faith after she first believed in Jesus. She was diagnosed with cancer in her lymph nodes and was given nine months to live, but she lived almost nine years after the diagnosis. To me she is my hero of faith and I think about the courage she had and it’s encouragement for me to keep fighting the good fight of faith.
Mothers we celebrate you and the example you set for your children and society.
I believe mothers hold the number one slot in influencing children to grow in the faith by setting good examples of what a Christian is.
Maybe your children are or will become prayer warriors for God because they heard you praying from behind a closed door, and they saw your prayers answered.
Maybe your children saw how you took a little money and outstretched the month to make ends meet.
Maybe they heard you give a soft answer instead of responding with anger.
Your children and the children in the community rise up and call you blessed.
During challenging times God kept you in perfect peace because you kept your mind stayed on Jesus.
You’ve sung songs of Zion that caused a stillness that only the Lord can bring to your household.
We celebrate you today.
If it weren’t for Jesus and you, we would be lost.
Thank you for what you’ve done at home and in New Gardners!
Thank you for what you’ve done for me in the absence of my mother!
I praise the Lord for what you’ve done!
