Ephesians 1:15–23 ESV
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 1:15 ESV
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints,
How does you salvation make you feel?
For Paul his salvation was a big deal.
He was thankful for it and he was thankful that the Ephesus people had given their faith to jesus Christ.
Its understandable why Paul would be thankful for his salvation but why would he be thankful for someone else s?
Ephesians 1:16 ESV
16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers,
There si really a couple of things at play here.
Paul cares because he delights in having fellow believers.
Paul cares because he was missionally minded and wanted all to come to know Christ.
Really for these two reasons alone we should all carry a similar attitude.
We should desire to be with likemonded believers while desiring that others come to know Him.
Ephesians 1:17–18 KJV 1900
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Now Paul gives us some clarity on why he was really saying this stuff.
He say’s he feels this way and prays for Ephesus in hopes that the spirit would give wisdom and revelation.
Why do you think that these two things were so important?
So Seems to hope here that teh Ephesians would be enlightened to their calling.
This is an important prayer in life.
It is important that people can come alongside their fellow Chrisitians in prayer that God give them direction.
Why is it important that other Christians be involved in your life?
Ephesians 1:19–20 ESV
19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,
Paul also hoped that they would be enlightened to see God’s power.
Why do you think it was important that Paul pray for the people to see God’s power?
Ephesians 1:21–23 ESV
21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
These verses are pretty simple, Christ is the victor over all.
verse 21 said he was the ruler adn authority displaying power and doominion.
Verse 22 said that he had all things under his foot an ancient symbol for victory.
verse 23 said the body is Christ’s and he is the completion of all.
What do these last three verses have to do with the first three?
How can you do a better job of being like Paul?
How can I do a better job of being like Paul for you guys?
