Welcome students.
-Common night next week. Food, community, worship, and message.
Whoever can bring 2 new friends who have never been to Common House will get a $25 gift card and the friends will get a $5 gift card.
Read Luke 5:36-38 “He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.”
Pray
How many would say you are a routine person? And how many would say you like to go with the flow?
(I am a planner while on vacation, but in my everyday life I just like to go with the flow, where as Becca is the opposite.)
Sometimes having the same routine gets us in a place that is comfortable, and in that place of being comfortable any new change, can be disrupting and if we are honest we don’t like.
In this series on living with “No regrets” last week we talked about what to forget and forgive, and so this week we are talking about what to make new.
One and only point: Jesus didn’t come so we could continue to live in the old, He came for us to live in the NEW!
One and only point: Jesus didn’t come so we could continue to live in the old, He came for us to live in the NEW!
What is the new? It’s the abundant life that is filled with adventure and hope. It’s taking risk, and knowing the greatest power source on the planet has your back.
So how can we live in the new?
1.) Having a new attitude.
1.) Having a new attitude.
-(Story of me hating criticism.)
-Have the students repeat this, “My response, determines the outcome.”
-How do you respond when adversity hits?
2.) Taking new actions.
2.) Taking new actions.
-Jesus’ redemptive purpose does not just happen overnight, in fact, this is a process of making new actions.
-(Story of my love hate relationship with coffee.)
-Habits don’t happen overnight, they can take years to form.
-Example of fast food vs. BBQ
3.) Gaining new ability.
3.) Gaining new ability.
-Now let me say, this is not about working harder or gaining some super power, but rather it’s Jesus constantly doing something new in our life.
-2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
-My prayer closet growing up.
Pray.
1.) If your here today, and you would just say Josh theres areas in my life that still need to be made new, lift your hand I want to pray for you.
2.) If you are in here today, and maybe don’t have any relationship with Jesus, the Bible says that today is the day of salvation, Jesus came and died for you. On the count of three I want you to lift your hand so I see who I am praying for.
