Tomb

Friday Crucified and put in the tomb, Saturday they rest, and Sunday he is risen

preparing for a visit, ironically, Jesus is already out visiting

the prophecies are all true

his mysterious words now making all the sense

the testimony of women

Peter and John racing to the tomb

the most downcast restored

Travel

about 7.5 miles out of Jerusalem

likely returning from the feast of the passover

men who have followed him and believed in him refuse to recognize him because they saw him hang on a cross

the biggest event in Jerusalem.

can’t you see that this is always what it was meant to be?

how could you be raised to memorize all of these things and even walk with him and hear him and not see the point?

he takes the head of the table and breaks the bread again

they recognize him and he vanishes

Application

in these stories we see two things:

people who should have understood but didn’t

and Jesus’ example of what the kingdom looks like fulfilled

if you know all of these things, why do you live as though its a surprise?

even more, how often are you furthering the kingdom as Jesus did?

God is not far away form people and knowledge of him is not reserved for the elite and judgment is not in the hands of humans

the kingdom and/or nearness with God is walking and talking and sitting and eating and enjoying the company of others striving toward the same life

a life that is exciting and cannot be contained, even 2000 years later
