4 Names of God

The Psalmist uses 4 different names for God in the first two verses. They are Most High (elyon), Almighty (Shaddiai), Lord (Yahweh), God (Eloha). David being the most probable writer of this Psalm calls Him by 4 different names because he is describing him in 4 different ways. The first is Elyon which means Highest. There is none greater than God. He is the highest being of all. David experienced this many times in his life. For him to go from the youngest child tending a flock of sheep to the king of Israel demonstrated that God is the Most High.
Secondly, David refers to God as Shaddai which means protection or shelter. There were many times in battle where David was outmatched and the Lord prevailed in the battle by giving David victory. Perhaps you remember the story of David and Goliath.
Thirdly, David calls God Yahweh which means personal God. It is how God interacts with us on a personal level. It is described When Moses asks for God’s name in Exodus 3:13-15
Exodus 3:13–15 NASB95
Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” God, furthermore, said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations.
David had experienced God in many personal ways in his life. When he sinned with Bathsheba before God, He found the forgiveness of God
Finally David refers to God as Eloha. This means creator. David knew that God had created him and ordained all his days Psalms 139:13-14
Psalm 139:13–14 NASB95
For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
We too can experience God in tangible and personal ways. This will enable us to walk this life in confidence and strength.

5 Blessings of Being A Child of God.

No fear

Psalm 91:5 NASB95
You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day;
When we are a child of God we should not fear the things of this world. God has protection against the things that would want to destroy us. He mentions arrows that fly by day, pestilence that stalk in the night, and destruction that lays waste at noon. These are some things that the Lord protects us from. Much like a mamma bird protects her chicks from the things that would want to destroy them. Matthew 10:28
Matthew 10:28 NASB95
“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

No Evil

Psalm 91:10 NASB95
No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent.
Evil is all around us. It has the propensity to overtake us and seems like it is beyond control. God promises to command His angels to fight the evil forces around you. Revelation 12:7-10
Revelation 12:7–10 NASB95
And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.

Deliverance

Psalm 91:14 NASB95
“Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.
The Lord will set us securely on High. When the Lord saves us. No one can remove the Lord’s salvation. John 10:28-30
John 10:28–30 NASB95
and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. “I and the Father are one.”
Salvation is what sets us on High.

Answered Prayer

Psalm 91:15 NASB95
“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
The Lord’s child will be heard by the Lord. Just as we would never turn our back against something our child needs, so the Lord will never turn His back on what we need 1 John 5:14
1 John 5:14 NASB95
This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Eternal Life

Psalm 91:16 NASB95
“With a long life I will satisfy him And let him see My salvation.”
God promises everlasting life to all his children. John 3:16
John 3:16 NASB95
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
