2 Tim. 1:5

We need moms to truly LOVE:
1. Learn the Scripture
· We need moms that will abide in Scripture
· We need moms that will teach the Scripture
· There is a severe lack of knowledge of God’s Word in America (and the world), but this lack of knowledge is quite preventable. The most abundantly printed book in the world is the Bible. You can even get it for free on your phone and take it with you wherever you go.
· With such ease of access to the Holy, Inspired, Inerrant Word of God, you’d think we would take advantage of that…if we found it valuable.
· And that’s part of the issue. Many people do not find Scripture valuable, but if we are not building families based on God’s Word, there is no foundation, and it will surely crumble.
· So, we need moms to learn the Word through:
a. Private meditation (Js. 4:8): through personal Bible studies and alone time with the Lord.
i. Several occasions in Scripture reveal that Jesus spent alone time with the Lord (Mt. 14:23).
ii. James 4:8 “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
iii. to avoid being double-minded, meaning being a doubter, confused, or even torn between worldliness and godliness, is to be rooted in the Word and which draws us closer to God.
iv. There is no substitute for private time with the Lord.
v. If you are not used to spending a quiet time before the Lord, here are a few things to keep in mind: two things you need to do: pray and study the Scripture.
1. Pray before you begin for the Lord to guide your thoughts and speak clearly to you. Also pray and confess any unconfessed sin you are aware of.
2. Pick a book of the Bible and read a chapter or 2 per day.
3. Follow a structured Bible study or devotional book.
b. Public meetings (Titus 2:3-5; Heb. 10:23-25) we need moms to be in church to learn from the family of God.
i. This is especially true of young mothers who need to be instructed in Godly wisdom from other godly mothers who have walked the line.
ii. Titus 2:3-5 “ Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.”
iii. Heb. 10:23-25 “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
2. Obey the Scripture (Js. 1:22; Mt. 7:26-27)
a. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says
b. Jesus even likened someone who merely listens, or perhaps even learns the Word, yet doesn’t put it into practice is like building a house on a sandy foundation (Mt. 7:26) But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash
i. America is full of families built on foundations of sand. And we are watching them crumble before our very eyes.
3. Venerate, value, veto, virtue
4. Educate children (2 Tim. 1:5; 3:14-15)
a. We need moms that teach the truth to their families.
b. 2 Tim. 1:5. Just like Timothy’s grandmother and mother educated him in Christian truth, we need Christian moms who teach the invaluable trues of Scripture.
c. 2 Tim. 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
d. Pr. 22:6 “6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
e. A Jewish family was to teach their Children the Shema: Dt. 6:4-8 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. y 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
