Characteristics of Godly Mothers

Moms are important:

“Mothering is the most significant, demanding, and underpaid profession around”

Exodus 20 Honor your father and your mother

Proverbs 31:29 “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.””

Godly Moms put God

Godly mom priorities the House of God

Psalm 84:10 “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper (Humblest position) in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

Luke 15:11-13 Prodigal son comes to his senses

Your presences is heaven to me ~ song we sing

In the presence of God there is protection, peace, joy, and direction.

Godly Moms are women of prayer

v10 she was deeply distress, prayed to the lord and wept bitterly

She brings her problems to God

Psalm 121:1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

The mountains could be in reference to the belief that gods dwell on mountain tops; however the psalmist help comes from Yahweh, not little “g” gods

Psalm 124:8 “Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

She is earnest

...Wept bitterly

Troubled in spirit

she was pouring out her spirit before the lord

anxiety and vexations

Psalm 42:3 “My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”

2 corinthians 2:4 “For I wrote to you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you.”

When was the last time you were brought to tears about a situation?

She continually comes

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing

Luke 18:1-8 woman who persisted in prayer

The name Samuel could mean God has heard

Godly Moms dedicate their children to God (3 ways) and point them to Jesus

Godly mother brings their kids to the house of God

v24...and she brought him to the house of the lord at Shiloh

Mothers have to understand their incredible influence- You set the tone!

Ex. Susanna Wesley mother of John and Charles Wesley. She would pray and read for two hours a day and lead family bible studies.

Godly Mother’s teach their children the ways of God

Proverbs 1:8 “Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching,” Proverbs 6:20 “My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.”

The instruction of a child seems to be not limited to the father or the school teach, but the mother has a role as well.

Psalm 78:3-4 “things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children...

Learn to be open about your faith. About what you believe and teach to them! Tell your kids your testimony!

Godly mother’s leave their children in the hands of God

v28 … as long as He lives He is lent to the lord

what destiny could you be holding them back from?

Godly mother’s point their kids to Jesus
