Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
1 Timothy 5:14 “I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.”

You build through a living faith. (v. 5)

Unfeigned faith - genuine faith
A tested faith - Lois and Eunice
An abiding faith - I am persuaded
We need some momma’s and grandma’s who are unashamed of the Gospel. Willing to bring their children and grandchildren along with them in Gospel ministry! Willing to share life together, the triumphs and the struggles!

You build through charging them. (v. 6)

God did not give you children for you to allow them to decide what they want or what they need.
EX: A Christian Counselor spoke at CCBBC one day, and a question was asked to him, “When can we trust our children?” His response was, “Never, they are brain-damaged!”
He went on to explain that a child’s frontal lobe, which is the decision-making part of their brain, is not fully developed until their in their 20’s!
Paul had a charge for Timothy through the intimate connection of “laying on of hands.”
The charge was to stir up the gift!
We need some Holy Ghost-filled mothers and grandmothers directing their children and not deflecting!

You build through encouraging them.

(v. 7)

God did not give you a spirit of cowardice
but one of power, love, and a sound mind (disciplined or wise)

Conclusion:

Robert Moffat was a missionary to Africa who translated the whole Bible and Pilgrim’s Progress into the language of an African tribe. His daughter Mary would go on to marry one of the greatest modern missionaries, David Livingston.
Dr. Joseph Parker once said that when Robert Moffat was added to the Kingdom of God, a whole continent was added with him. A mother’s kiss did it. He was leaving home, and his mother was going with him part of the way.
At last she could walk no farther, and she stopped. “Robert,” she said, “promise me something.” “What?” asked the boy. “Promise me something,” she said again, and he replied, “You will have to tell me before I will promise.” “It is something you can easily do,” she said. “Promise your mother.” He looked into her face, and said, “Very well, Mother, I will do anything you wish.”
She clasped her hands behind his head and pulled his face down to hers, and said, “Robert, you are going out into a wicked world. Begin every day with God. Close every day with God.” Then she kissed him, and Robert Moffat said it was that kiss that made him a missionary.
