Introduction
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

Lots of Mothers in scripture
Eve, the mother of all living
Deborah, made a mother in Israel
Hannah, the mother of Samuel
Mary, the mother of Jesus
We’ll look this morning at Jochebed, the mother of Moses
She was a mother in a difficult time
All male babies were under sentence of death
She acted in faith and entered God’s hall of faith (Hebrews 11)
She saw the potential in her Son (v. 23)
He was a proper child
He was a goodly child (Exodus 2:2)
He was exceeding fair (Acts 7:20)
We know how parents feel about their children
She loved him as he was and expected the most of him
She risked her life for her son (V. 23)
She violated the commandment of Pharoah to save Moses
She was not afraid to obey God rather than man (Acts 5:29)
It took great courage to do this, and Moses was watching
Hebrews 11:27 “27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.”
She imparted faith to her son (v. 24)
Faith was transmitted from mother to son, from parent to child
Her obedient faith was rewarded by God
Exodus 2:7-10 “7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee? 8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother. 9 And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.”
She would teach him about his people and her God
He responded to this teaching and became a great man of faith
She enabled her son to take an eternity-minded look in life (V. 25)
Moses saw the temporary nature of sin (Pleasure for a season)
He chose to suffer with the people of God
He understood that suffering is temporary
He came to believe that eternal riches are in the Lord
Hebrews 11:26 “26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.”
He learned to walk by faith as she did, trusting God in difficult times
Jochebed was rewarded for her faith in God
Her son was chosen by God to deliver His people
All her efforts to train him in faith were rewarded
What about those faithful mothers whose children do not serve God?
Your responsibility as a mother is to train our children up in the way they should go
Your responsibility as a mother is to properly and consistently demonstrate Jesus to our families
Your responsibility as a mother is to remain faithful to God in everything we do
Your responsibility as a mother is to love God and trust in Him no matter what
Our children’s responsibility is to respond to your teaching and example and to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling
You place those children in God’s hands....and you keep them there!
