Grace & Peace

Galatians 1:3–5 AMP
Grace and spiritual blessing be to you and [soul] peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), Who gave (yielded) Himself up [to atone] for our sins [and to save and sanctify us], in order to rescue and deliver us from this present wicked age and world order, in accordance with the will and purpose and plan of our God and Father— To Him [be ascribed all] the glory through all the ages of the ages and the eternities of the eternities! Amen (so be it).
In almost every letter the Apostle Paul wrote he opened with these words, Grace and Peace
These two word are reciprocally connected in that you can not have peace ith God without understanding the grace of God
The Greek word here is Kharis
at the root of the word are 2 meanings, what delights and what finds favor
favor shown upon and received, the showing or favor and receiving coming together!
he means to “show pleasure” or “to show to be satisfied and pleasant”
Grace can only be given by someone who has something to give and can only be received by someone who has not!
Sometimes we think of the word grace to mean kindness - while kindness is an action of grace it is not grace in and of itself!
the gift is a demonstration of the condition of the giver
Notice here that the Apostle Paul connects Grace and then the result being peace!
Sometimes e confuse the application of forgiveness with the grace of God.
The Scripture says
Ephesians 2:8 NLT
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Forgiveness was wrought through Christ
Hebrews 1:3 NLT
The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.
No it is His “Good pleasure” to extend forgiveness to us
Luke 12:32 NLT
“So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.
God now is able to extend forgiveness to those who were not able to be forgiven - GRACE!
2 Peter 3:9 NLT
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
Please don’t misunderstand me!
Grace is His unmerited favor but it has nothing to do with freedom to sin!
Remember that the word grace means to be delighted
God is delighted that we have chosen Him and not death
The response to that from the receiver should be thankfulness
That thankfulness now is the motivation to live a life worthy of the giver of Grace!
Luke 15:7 NLT
In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!
Jesus said that
Luke 5:32 NLT
I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”
Like Job
Job 9:32–35 NLT
“God is not a mortal like me, so I cannot argue with him or take him to trial. If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together. The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment. Then I could speak to him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength.
People for the most part fear God’s presence because it reminds them of their sinfulness
Exodus 20:18–19 NLT
When the people heard the thunder and the loud blast of the ram’s horn, and when they saw the flashes of lightning and the smoke billowing from the mountain, they stood at a distance, trembling with fear. And they said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen. But don’t let God speak directly to us, or we will die!”
Fear the opposite of peace!
The Bible tells us now that
Hebrews 4:14–15 NLT
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
Do you see it?
First comes mercy - forgiveness then it results in peace!
You see man is looking for peace in all the wrong places!
In our opening verse Paul described it as “Soul peace”
David cried out about this problem
Psalm 42:5 NKJV
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.
Jesus told us
John 14:27 NLT
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
Peter wrote
1 Peter 4:3–4 NLT
You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.
Verse 1 tells us
1 Peter 4:1 NLT
So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.
My friends when we can truly realize the God is simply delighted with us, it take the pressure off to continue to live a legalistic relationship with God based on our daily performance!
God simply wants to love us bringing peace into this chaotic world!
Galatians 1:3–5 NLT
May God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
