HEBREWS 12:14-29
HEBREWS
Introduction
1:1-3
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in
various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son, whom he
appointed Heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The
Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being,
sustaining all things by his powerful word.

HEBREWS 12:14-29
Hebrews 12:14-29
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be
holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that
no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter
root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no
one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a
single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest
son. 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this
blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing
with tears, he could not change what he had done.
14
You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning
with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a
voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word
be spoken to them, 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If
even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”[a] 21 The
sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”[b]
22
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the
heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of
angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are
written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of
the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and
to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
18
See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape
when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we,
if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26 At that time his
voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake
not only the earth but also the heavens.”[c] 27 The words “once more”
indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so
that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let
us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
29
for our “God is a consuming fire.”

Lk 21:25-27
25
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On
the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at
the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 People will faint
from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the
world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 27 At
that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a
cloud with power and great glory.
Rev 16:17-21 17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out
of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!”18 Then
there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe
earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has
been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.19 The great city split into
three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God
remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of
the fury of his wrath. 20 Every island fled away and the mountains could not
be found. 21 From the sky huge hailstones, each weighing about a hundred
pounds,[a] fell on people. And they cursed God on account of the plague of
hail, because the plague was so terrible.
Rev 21:1-4
21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and
the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw
the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from
God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard
a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now
among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and
God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear
from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or
pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that
cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so
worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
29
for our “God is a consuming fire.”

Theme verse for 2020
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so
easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out
for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For
the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat
down at the right hand of the throne of God.3 Consider him who endured
such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose
heart. Heb 12:1-3
Theme verse for 2022
“Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke
upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
humble in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls.30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
