how to begin this morning with a simple question and the question is this what motivates you What motivates you?
This morning will be looking at what motivated Peter, as well as the rest of the readers.
As we look this morning at First Peter, Chapter 4, verses 7 through 11.
So if you will take your Bible, enter with me, the First Peter chapter 4 in our last time together, we saw Peter's command to arm yourself against unjust suffering.
And today we're looking at another way that you can do that.
But motivation is key.
So, what you to keep that in your mind, as you hear these verses, Peter says, the end of all things is near therefore be of sound, judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of Prayer.
Above all keep yourself, fervent in your love for one another because love covers a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without complaint as each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Whoever speaks is to do.
So as one, who is speaking, the utterances of God.
Whoever serves is to do.
So is one who is serving by the strength, which God supplies.
So that, in all things, God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whom belongs the glory and Dominion forever and ever.
Amen.
Peter brings us to another Triumph in Christ.
The first was his death and Resurrection.
The second was our death, cuz if you remember it death, we triumph over sin because we cease to send And now he's going to talk about the end of all things and what implications yet.
It should have on each one of us, what it should do to motivate us.
It is clear that we are at the end of all things.
We've been living in the last days ever since Jesus Christ.
Step foot on the earth, and we have been in those last days ever since some actually believe.
And I believe this that we are in the last of those last days, but I want you to notice in verse 7, how feeder begins this.
He begins by saying that the end of all things is near.
The end of all things is near.
The question is, of course, what are the things that are near?
What are those things that are coming to an end back that phrase or word?
All things occurs in the Greek text at the beginning of the sentence, which tells us that it is in phatic.
It's being emphasized.
But I believe that there can only be one answer to that question, even though that there are many answers that have been proposed.
For example, some people believe that the end of all things is referring to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
That brought about the end of all things.
Other sip said, no, it refers to the end of suffering under Nero and how would certainly fit the context because the context of the entire book is suffering persecution.
Others have said, no, it's the end of his evil government.
Therefore, the government would change and we would have more favorability toward Christians for believers.
I know that.
That's how we look at things politically today.
We want to have the right people in there many times.
It's just so that we can live a better life.
And yes, there's nothing wrong with living a better life and having a good life.
But there's other things that I believe Peter has in mind right here.
The end of all things.
What do you think about when you hear the end of all things?
Well, I think of eschatology.
Is eschatological?
Eschatological to speaking up end things in time events.
So there is some reference here to in x.
But exactly him, what does he mean?
Because, you know, when you survey the Bible, you find this word.
Teleios is used a number of different ways.
We'll talk about that in just a moment.
But you hear the end being talked about as well.
Let me just give you an example of some places where we hear this Matthew 10:22.
Jesus said to his disciples, you will be hated by all because of my name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
and so their, the end is talkin about What the end of what?
That's a question that we're asking, will Matthew 1339.
We have another passage that talks about this and said the enemy who sewed?
Them is the devil in the Harvest, is the end of the age and the reapers are angels.
So just as the tears are gathered up and burned with fire, so it will be at the end of the a.
So two times you have the phrase End of the Age occurring, And Matthew 1349.
It says.
So it will be at the End of the Age.
The angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous.
And then you have Matthew 24-3, and he was sitting on the Mount of Olives.
The disciples came to him, privately, sing.
Tell us, when will these things happen?
And what will be the sign of your coming and of the End of the Age?
Matthew 24:6 says, you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars.
See that you are not frightened for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.
Matthew 24:14.
The Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations and then the end will come.
Just a few more 1st Corinthians.
10:11 says now these things happen to them as an example, as they were written for our instruction upon whom the ends of the ages have come for Christmas 15-24.
Then comes the end when he hands over the kingdom to the God and father when he has abolished all Rule and all authority and Power.
So we hear the end being discussed in these passages, the End of the Age.
What does that mean the End of the Age itself?
Or holding fast Until the End enduring until the end end of what?
End of the world.
The end of your life.
Well, those things would certainly be true.
We won't endure to the end to God, ushers in the very end of all things through everything, comes to a final conclusion.
And also we want to be faithful unto the Lord to the end of our life, right?
So there's things are true.
Peter has just been speaking about judgment.
And as I've said on other occasions, and I was just telling them in this Wednesday night.
The context is so helpful to us.
And here's an example, where context is helpful.
Because when he goes into talking about the end, after having just been talkin about judgment, it gives us somewhat of an idea of what and he's talking about.
if you'll notice in, Verse for those who these Believers used to run with their shocked, they're offended.
They resent you now because you don't run with them, doing the same thing, they were doing.
You don't run with him into the same excesses of dissipation verse poor says.
So they hate you.
Emmaline you.
They don't like what you stand for now.
They don't like what your life represent in and it's convicting to them.
Very convicting.
But Peter says, in verse five, what's going to happen to him?
They're going to give an account to him.
Who's ready to judge the living and the dead.
They're going to give an account.
