The Good Creation
Before there was us.
I.
There was God
A. Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
B. 1 Peter 1:20 “For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you”
C. John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”
D. Colossians 1:15
II.
There were Spiritual Beings
a. Job 38:1-7 At the foundations of the earth “When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
NOTE: Job 1:6 tells us that the “sons of God” would present themselves before the Lord along with “Satan”.
The name means “adversary, to oppose or obstruct, or accuse” N.T. is “diabolous” devil which means to “Slanderous, gossip, malicious talk”
b.
Isaiah 14:12-15 ““How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!
“But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.
‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ “Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.”
c.
Ezekiel 28:1-2 “The word of the Lord came again to me, saying, “Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Because your heart is lifted up And you have said, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods In the heart of the seas’; Yet you are a man and not God, Although you make your heart like the heart of God”
d.
Ezekiel 28:13-15 “You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The ruby, the topaz and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you.
On the day that you were created They were prepared.
“You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there.
You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire.
“You were blameless in your ways From the day you were created Until unrighteousness was found in you.”
III.

F. Seraphim mentioned only in Isaiah 6:2,6.
six wings each covering an area of the creature declaring the holiness of God.
NOTE: Numbers 21:6
Some scholars believe it came from the root “to burn” and others believe it’s meaning is a “nobleman”.
However the word “fiery” has to do with the burning of the poison.
Therefore there may be no connection at all between the seraphim and the serpent.
Reason I bring this up is that when we look more closely at genesis it seems clear that the adversary of Eve and Adam was not a snake.

The ones that Help
CLOSE: The spiritual realm is where we came from.
We were created by a non physical Creator.
Those that influence our physical realm, your relationships, are non physical beings.
Some are hostile to God’s plan and your success in that plan and others are sent to minister and assist you in that plan.
There is a reason why God commands us in a particular way to live.
There is good reason to not get drunk not just the harm it does to the body as well as puts others in danger but it alters our mind and spirit.
There is a reason God says sex outside of marriage is destructive.
It spiritually bonds you to that person.
It is part of God’s plan to create other imagers of Himself.
And when we step outside his plan we have chaos, we see it in the news today “Roe V. Wade”.
There is a reason why Jesus said seek first His kingdom and all of its righteousness, because you are living for a greater purpose.
You are living for a different place.
You came from a spiritual place.
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak.
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea.
We are far too easily pleased.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory, and Other Addresses
“There are no ordinary people.
You have never talked to a mere mortal.
Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat.
But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.
This does not mean that we are to be perpetually solemn.
We must play.
But our merriment must be of that kind (and it is, in fact, the merriest kind) which exists between people who have, from the outset, taken each other seriously - no flippancy, no superiority, no presumption.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory
“It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which,if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare.
All day long we are, in some degree helping each other to one or the other of these destinations.
It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all of our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics.
There are no ordinary people.
You have never talked to a mere mortal.
Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat.
But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.”
