Ephesians 2:1-10
What does it mean to be dead in our trespasses and sins?
You see Paul clarifies this for us himself
V.2
Everyone at one time walked in sin.
This was to be expected.
Before salvation we all walk according to the world.
Who is “the prince of the power of the air” in verse 2?
Paul was talking about the devil in saying that we all walked according to the ways of the devil at some point.
Yet, as he said in verse one, through our salvation we are dead to our trespasses.
V.3-4
Paul confirms for us what we just said.
We all one lived for the passion of flesh and Carried our evil desires in our life.
So the question then becomes, who can save us from us?
V.4
So Paul says that God had great mercy and shown us great love
V.5
God brought us from the dead and made us alive in Christ.
What does it mean to be made alive in Christ?
To be made alive in Christ is that Christ has completed us in him.
Paul continues to answer this question.
V.6
God raised us up and seated us in heaven.
How can we be seated in heaven while still here? What’s Paul talking about?
V.7
He has set us into heaven with his grace.
In other words he has forgiven us and promised us eternity with him.
Now this is where a lot of people get confused.
Can you do anything in your body to get to heaven?
V.8-9
We can only receive heaven thorough faith. We cannot get to heaven by our works.
We cannot get to heaven by being good enough.
We cannot get to heaven by any means beside to blood of Jesus Christ.
Our salvation is nothing more than a gift from God to those who follow him because we love him.
V10
Now, even though works doesn’t get us to heaven does that mean we never do good works?
According to verse 10 God created us for good works.
This is to say that we are created once again to bring him glory.
