David is lamenting how he has sinned against a holy God. He pleas for mercy and grace, even though he knows what the “justice of God” would look like.

In this, we see David recognize that God is the righteous judge. He will deal rightly with what has been done.
But David is fearful of God’s anger.
But as soon as he confesses David pleads with God not to deal with him with strict justice, but with mercy and kindness.

We always want justice, until we are the subjects of it.

Looking outward in repentance instead of inward
Not only does God not deal with our sin in anger, but he gave us his son so that we would be free from his anger forever.

V2

We see David ask for mercy. He knows he is weak, especially compared to God.
Down to the very core of his person, he is afraid because he has sinned against a Holy, Powerful God
We get to see the definition of Fatherly love.
