Q: Why do so many volunteers many without small children come together every week to run this Awana program?
A: We believe in the power of the Word of God.
We believe that children memorizing and understanding the teaching s of scripture will set them on a path to know Jesus, love Him, and serve Him.
We also understand that the faith of the parent is not enough to save a child.
The child themselves must recognize their own sin, choose to repent and turn to Christ.
This is why we as a church have decided to spend precious time, energy, and financial resources on a program that explains the gospel message in way that even children can understand.
Our Hope is that every child will ultimately choose Christ.
We understand that children when they are young are motivated by keeping track and keeping score to earn prizes and awards.
Our sincere belief is that the Word of God through the Holy Spirit is powerful enough to produce in them a change of heart.
One that will lead them to repentance and faith.
So my challenge tonight is not really to the kids but to mom and dad, grandma and grandpa.
If you were to add up all of the hours of Awana you would find that it doens’t come close to the time that you spend with your kids.
You are to be their primary source of biblical instruction.
They need to see your example of faithfulness in Bible study, prayer, and obedience.
They need to see a living faith not just a moral faith.
The goal of the gospel is not to make people better or simply more moral but rather to engage everyone that believes into the mission to reach the world with the gospel.
God has not given the church or Awana the responsibility of training your child that’s on you.
Were just here to help.
So my challenge to you tonight is this…Mom and Dad, will you sacrifice your own selfish desires and goals to see that this generation of children get its.
Instruction without a real life example is rarely effective.
That real-life example should be you.
