Read Mark 7:14-23
The Proclamation
The Proclamation
In a continuation of the dialogue from last week Jesus makes this proclamation
After he gets done ripping into the pharisees he calls the people to him
He calls them to him to do what he has come to do
TO TEACH THEM
Its a plea of importance
Obviously more was said than just this, but Mark sticks with the high notes
Hear me all of you
This is something you all need to understand
All of you who live by these man made traditions need to listen
All of you who have traded the commandments of God for the traditions of man
Listen I am going to tell you the truth
Remember this is a man who speaks with more authority than the scribes
Because this is the man who was there when the law was given
A man who wrote the law and knew its intent
Listen to this proclamation
Its not what goes in thats the problem
Using the logic of the rabbis of the time Jesus proclaims that if you say something inside a jar can make a person unclean
How much more so if the inside of a person is unclean
Jesus uses their logic and goes the extra step
All of these things that live outside of the person cannot make them unclean
A bad piece of fruit
