romans 9:1 “I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,”
Romans 9:2 “that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart.”
Romans 9:3 “For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,”
The Spirit of God is bearing witness of the hurt and the pressure that Paul is feeling for his Jewish brothers.
Moses had a similar burden for his Jewish brothers and sisters.
Ex 32:32-33 “Yet now, if You will forgive their sin—but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.” And the Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.”
Did Moses and Paul really know what they where saying
to desire the curse of God is not only suffering.
- But moral alienation from God
- Also I no longer have capacity to love God.
-Pauls wish was in effect a love for his neighbor above God.
-But asking to be lost after reading Roman 8 how nothing can separate us from Gods love was an impossible wish though it was noble to request.
The kind of love that Paul had in this verse could not be mentally comprehended.
This is a very high thought.
Paul is saying I desire to be cursed from you
I desire not even to know God to experience God.
Paul affirmed his deep anguish of heart over the rejection of the gospel by the vast majority of Jews.
Paul was grieved about his Jewish brothers not coming to faith in Christ.
So much so Paul was willing forever to be cursed and cut off from Christ so his brothers could be saved.
You ever witness a son or a daughter thats going through some sickness or that is in deep pain and you wish you’ve could do something about. Even to the point you wish you had the sickness or disease?
Paul had the same love Christ had. Christ became sin for us. Gal 3:13 “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),”
It almost raises the question like why, cant Israel be saved .
Why does it even matter if we have a choice of not . Whats the point . If God i

Romans 9:12-13 “it was said to her, “The older shall serve the younger.” As it is written, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.””
As to “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated,”
a woman once said to Mr. Spurgeon, “I cannot understand why God should say that He hated Esau.” “That,” Spurgeon replied, “is not my difficulty, madam. My trouble is to understand how God could love Jacob!”
All men being sinners we must allow God to “retreat into His own sovereignty. “
Romans 9:14-16 “What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.”
Romans 9:17-21 “For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens. You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?”
Hardens means makes to make strong heavy-
Its not that Pharaoh was a good guy then God completly changed his heart all together,
It means Pharaoh already was resistent toward God and God made that resistance stronger more heavy.
Maybe God hasn’t delivered from you sin is because He wants to get the glory. Not man.
Maybe God is withholding deliverence because He wants to be glorified.
