Philippians 1:9–13 NRSV
And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God. I want you to know, beloved, that what has happened to me has actually helped to spread the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to everyone else that my imprisonment is for Christ;
I can do all things through Christ who give me strength. What does this rally mean? Can we really to all things through and in Christ? If we don’t trust what he can do will we be able to do all things that God has granted for us?
As I studied this topic a song kept ringing through my head that I could not shake it. It is from the most prolific poet, rapper of all time Tu Poc. The song is titled “Keep your head up”. The lyrics to this song was to give courage to his sister, women and I think people in general who have ever been through the struggle. The hook in the song says, Ooo child things are going to get easier, keep your head up, ooh child things will get brighter. As he coined this phrase throughout his song he continued to encourage those who were oppressed by society and even within themselves in his song, letting them know you can do this, not all is a loss. You can do all this through Christ that strengthens you. It may look hard right now, bleak, gloomy. Life ma be squeezing out lemons, but if you keep your head up you’re going to make it. I’m telling you today to Keep your head up.
The Bible tells us as Paul speaks to the people of Phillipi to give joy in everything. Thank the Lord for your ups and downs of life. Be grateful for the gifts God has provided you. that word says in verse 11 that he had learned to be content whatever the problem. Paul said he has been up and down, and as we say almost level to the ground. Isn’t it something that we don’t say I’ve been up and I’ve been down and I’m on the ground.
You see almost level seem to say that as log as I keep my eyes lifted high and not down on the ground that I have a hope that God will see me through. Psalm 121:1-2
Psalm 121:1–2 NRSV
I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
We must learn to be content or pleased and satisfied in our struggles and in our plenty. Philippians 4:10-12
Philippians 4:10–12 NRSV
I rejoice in the Lord greatly that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned for me, but had no opportunity to show it. Not that I am referring to being in need; for I have learned to be content with whatever I have. I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need.
How will we learn to draw strength from God if we have never been through anything. Verse 13 says we can do everything through him who gives us strength. But we will never experience the gift of strength if we do not believe the one who give it to us. We must ask the one who ha all power to give us the strength to go through lifes woes, struggles, and trials. He is the only giver of all strength and with out us acknowledging that it is only through God that we will be given this strength. Life wil be caotic yes but God will see you through.
I suggest to you to day that you need to thank God for every situation rather good or bad and know that in doing this your strength to endure will come. from the Lord.
Psalm 24 NRSV
Of David. A Psalm. The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation. Such is the company of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah
