The Lord’s Work in verse 35
The Lord’s Work in verse 35
Introduction
Thanksgiving
Scripture caught attention / read Matthew 9:35-38
And Jesus was going around all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness. And when he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were weary and dejected, like sheep that did not have a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest that he send out workers into his harvest.”
opening prayer that the Lord would open are eyes and that we would hear.
Scripture read Matthew 9:35
And Jesus was going around all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness.
Teaching in the Word of the God. (Luke 4:14-29)
Preaching the Good News of the Kingdom. Which is the Message of God’s salvation, that God has brought salvation / forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ himself. God forgives sinners, fallen men through the sacrifice of himself on the cross.
curing people of their sicknesses and diseases. (John 10:10)
He came to give people life and life more abundantly. He was reversing the effects of sin by giving people life , life spiritually and life physically. He is the great physician , showing how good he is and keeping his word.
Christ’s compassion over the crowd. Matthew 9:36
Christ’s compassion over the crowd. Matthew 9:36
Scripture Read
And when he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were weary and dejected, like sheep that did not have a shepherd.
He felt compassion for the crowd.
They were distressed,brought down.
He pitied them, felt their sorrow and understood how they felt because of his humanity , fully God and Man he pitied them.
They were sunk down/ brought down/ powerless.
Sheep without a Shepherd.
With no one to guide them , feed them, take care of them.
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
The harvest is plentiful, many great. The people that need him are many, that need salvation are great. The world needs him.
But its the workers / field laborers who are few. Those doing the field work are few.
thoughts
Not only those in the mission work , out in third world countries few, but those who spread his message all through out the world are few.
“Enter through the narrow gate, because broad is the gate and spacious is the road that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it, because narrow is the gate and constricted is the road that leads to life, and there are few who find it!
Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest that he send out workers into his harvest.”
Ask the Lord , pray that he sends workers into his harvest.
that people be sent out preaching the gospel , brining sinners to repentance, bringing people to reconile with God for he has paid the price.
His harvest , his world , the Lord of the harvest , he will bring it about , the people himself. Through Jesus Christ he will bring about the harvest , he will bring about salvation , healing , restoration, life more abundantly , he brings it about through the finished work of Christ on the cross.
in closing
But what does it say? “The word is near to you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim), that if you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation. For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, who is rich to all who call upon him. For “everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”
How then will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in him about whom they have not heard? And how will they hear about him without one who preaches to them? And how will they preach, unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How timely are the feet of those who bring good news of good things.”
The Lord wants us to pray that he would send out workers in the harvest ,and that we would go as well, indivdually and together. To have compassion on the people that need Jesus and move to spreading in his gospel.
