Moses the legislator and mediator  of the Covenant, and deputy of the Lord (Adam Clarke).

The Altar was representative of the Throne of God, and the twelve stones the twelve tribes of Israel. (Suzerainty treaty between a king and His subjects)  These were the parties that were entering into covenant.

Covenant Law

  • Commandments 1-4: Vertical Relationship
  • Commandments 6-10: Horizontal Relationship
  • Apodictic Law (Chapter 20)
  • Case Law (Chapters 21-22)
  • Ceremonial Law (23:10-19)

Blood of the Covenant (Ratifying the Covenant, both parties being sprinkled to signify the mutual agreement to enter into union. Exodus 24:6-8)

Tabernacle (dwelling place. That god might dwell with His people. A place of mutual dwelling of God and the individual (1 Cor. 6:9) and the people of God as a whole [nation, church] (2 Corinthians 6:16) ([privilege and honor] Cf. Jn. 1:14) A copy of the true heaven (Heb. 8:5; Heb. 9:23-24)
