One of the great needs of our day is to simply get people lost.
Everyone is a Christian, everyone is righteous, everyone is good.
Romans 8:3 AV
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
According to Lifeway, the publication sales arm of the Southern Baptist Convention in a survey, they said 1/3 of people never even contemplate the question.

In an ABC poll - 89% of American believe in heaven and 85% Christian people think they are going there across all groups and denominations.
https://abcnews.go.com/2020/Beliefs/story?id=1422658That is real problem.
This is a real problem, it is a problem that must be dealt with if we are going to affect people.
s a matter of fact there a lot of people think they are good - that they need no improvement; that they are on track - as a matter of fact, they think they are better before God than we think ourselves.
What is their problem, they need to find out how lost they are.

I. FALSE ASSUMPTIONS OF SALVATION

A. Profession

Remember our opening Scripture:
Matthew 7:21 AV
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Just because someone says that are saved - making a profession they are going to heaven - doesn’t mean they are.
When people get saved they ought to say so.
Psalm 107:2 AV
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
It is a right thing to do.
Romans 10:9 AV
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
But profession doesn’t mean someone is saved.
I’ve heard many people tell me they are on their way

B. Prayer

Can a prayer save someone, no - not a prayer, what is that saves, it is faith and repentance.
Can a person be saved during a prayer or may a profession of faith

C. Baptism

I have often had discussion with different denominations who say that baptism is necessary for salvation because of verses like:
Acts 2:38 AV
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

D. Religious or church affiliation

E. Works

1. Good works

Ephesians 2:8–9 (AV)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

2. Religious service

There are no service that is required to go to heaven.
Colossians 2:14 AV
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

II. The Principles of Saving Sinners

A. Christ came to save sinners

Matthew 9:13 AV
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
1 Timothy 1:15 AV
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

B. The greater the sin the greater the grace

2 Corinthians 8:7 AV
Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
2 Corinthians 9:8 AV
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
Romans 5:20 AV
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

III. THE IMPORTANCE OF REALIZATION OF ONE’S LOST CONDITION

A. Realization they have sinned against God

B. Realization they are separated from God

Isaiah 59:2 AV
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

C. Realization they are sentenced to hell

Revelation 21:8 AV
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

IV. Using this truth in our Presentation of the Gospel

The best way to be used of God is to be open, honest, having compassion, being real.
People can see when we are not real. The Gospel is one hardest things to be open with and yet the easies.
It is hard because we must make ourselves vulnerable. But once we can get past that, we can truly touch people’s lives.
Those of you who have gone through soulwinning courses before, you know that there are several things that are involved with connecting and meeting new people.
But whether you have met someone at a door - or it is friends you have known for years - we must be able communicate to them the truth of the Gospel that starts with all men are sinners, and are lost - condemned already to hell.
Keep this in your mind, lets approach our soul-winning presentation with that idea that I need to show this person that they are lost and separated from God.
As we talk to them and ask them about their church background, and then tell them about our testimony, lets use it as a segway into talking about our sin.
"Yes, I had someone share with me a truth that really changed my life" that I was a sinner and lost and on my way to hell."
I didn't like that, I don't like being called a sinner and that I'm going to hell, but it wasn't those people that said that, ultimately it was God telling me that."

Ideas for sharing how lost we were:

I had several sins that were very prevalent.

1. I was a liar, have you ever told a lie?

Exodus 20:16 AV
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

2. I was a thief, have you ever stole anything?

Exodus 20:15 AV
Thou shalt not steal.

3. I was a blasphemer, have you ever used God's name in vain?

Exodus 20:7 AV
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

4. I was an adulterer at heart, have you ever lusted after someone or something?

Exodus 20:14 AV
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Matthew 5:28 AV
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

5. I was a murderer at heart, have you ever hated someone?

Exodus 20:13 AV
Thou shalt not kill.
1 John 3:15 AV
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Romans 5:20 AV
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
The Greater the Conviction the Greater the Conversion!
Many of you God changed your life in a great and might way - mainly because you realized how far you were from God. How much you had wronged Him. When you got saved, you appreciated so much the salvation God had given, and the new life He gifted you - that you started serving the Lord with excitement and joy.
That is what People need in their lives.
