Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
HUMILITY DEFINE
The quality or condition of being humble
Modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc.
lack of arrogance; a feeling of inferiority, and having a low rank.
Jesus did not preach inferiority, not in the sense of self-worth.
Jesus did not teach people how to be abused by others. Rather, He taught us how to be lowly in nature so that we could forgive those who persecute us.
He taught us how to rebuke and move on from offenses
CS Lewis Quote here
Through out scripture - here’s a few
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
HUMILITY
Virtue/Possess – Disciple/Practice
You practice humility, you don’t possess it
Practicing it embeds it in your character
Discipline is something no one likes but all admire.

For example, Olympic 100 meter runners practice and discipline themselves for 4 years for an event that lasts 10 seconds. On the spiritual level,
you cannot achieve godliness without developing discipline. As Paul says,
But reject those myths fit only for the godless and gullible, and train yourself for godliness.
As you practice it, it becomes part of your character.
The greatest danger is thinking you possess or can use humility because when you do this, it becomes pride.
Common Attitudes Towards Humility
Common Attitudes Towards Humility
Not popular or greatly admired
Appreciate it in others - but rarely want it for ourselves
It’s a result of low self-esteem
ONE - We want to be first or famous, and humility (true humility) gets in the way of this.
TWO - We like humble people around us because for the most part they do not threaten our position. We would rather work on humility after we get to the top. For example, Jesus' disciples
THREE - People who do not like themselves are not automatically humble. On the contrary, people who practice the discipline of humility are usually secure and aware of their talents and gifts.
The Battle for a Humble Heart
The Battle for a Humble Heart
But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
What Christian humility looks like in the church.
Remove selfish motivation (not just my wants).
Become less conceited (actively think of others).
Consider others more important than self
Serve others (not just self).
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
