Romans 8:26-27

Put me on the Prayer List

Me:

I don’t know how I should pray.

a. Can you put my “loved one on the prayer list”?

i. They are on the death bed.

ii. How do you pray in the that situation?

iii. Lord heal that person?

iv. Or Lord ease their suffering and call them home.

1. I have never prayed that prayer

b. The bible has something to say about this

Philippians 1:21 CEV

If I live, it will be for Christ, and if I die, I will gain even more.

ii. Someone has said this:

iii. We’re more interested in keeping the saints out ofHeaven than we are the lost out of Hell.

Prayer List

a. Prayer request

i. Most are for the sick

ii. I almost posted about my mail car

b. We call out for prayer in our distress

i. We can see it

ii. We can understand it

iii. But we need to pray for more than the sick

iv. But there is a problem with that

You cannot pray for everything

i. Let’s ask a probing question

ii. What does God want to pray for?

iii. We really don’t know, do we?

iv. We don’t know everything too for.

v. “For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for.”

vi. There are lots of things to pray for (Peace, Covid, Addiction, Leaders, Pastors, etc.)

vii. Let’s go beyond the prayer list

viii. To the next level of prayer

ix. We can pray prayers that are effective prayers

James 5:16 NLT

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

God:

Romans 8:14 NLT

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

ii. We are led by the Spirit

iii. E.G. God’s Holy Spirit will put on my heart to call someone.

iv. It’s often the very thing they needed.

God’s Holy Spirit can also lead our prayers.

i. We often pray in ignorance

ii. Lord heal this person – But God may have a higher purpose

iii. Lord fix my car – But God may be correcting some character flaw (I don’t have patients for some things)

iv. Lord fix this relationship – Maybe God is teaching about love.

1. A difficult person - Maybe it’s a thorn in the flesh to teach you humility

Romans 8:26 “For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for.”

vi. God’s Holy Spirit prays for us when don’t know what God wants us to pray for.

vii. This is praying on another level

You:

God’s Power Lines

a. Electricity

i. Outside this building are power lines

ii. Those power lines carry a lot of current

iii. We are inside this building with all the light, sound system, A/C etc.

iv. The electricity isn’t wired directly from the power pole to our building

v. It would be too much. Everything would explode and burn up

vi. It goes through transformers and the power is reduced to match the volts needed.

The Holy Spirit is our transformer

i. You pray - You have your list – you hear the request – you post on social media “prayers”

ii. The Holy Spirit will first lead you to pray

iii. But you are not sure or what you should pray but you just pray

iv. Then the Holy Spirit takes those prayers, and He “transforms” them and makes intercession according to the will of God.

Romans 8:26–27 NLT

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
