What Cuased Achan to Sin
WHAT CAUSED ACHAN TO SIN?
TEXT: Joshua 7
Introduction: Joshua had led the Children of Israel to the defeat of Jericho. We need to be reminded of God’s instructions in the occupying of the land of Cannan. They were to destroy everything and take nothing for themselves. The gold, silver, brass & iron was to be concerated for the House of the Lord. Now in chapter verse 1 begins with But. The gladness of victory was soon replaced by the gloom of defeat. All because of the sin of Achan. One man’s sin brought devasting effects on many. Why would a man sin when it would have this effect.
I. He Failed To Keep His Eyes Off Of The World (V. 21)
A. He Saw Only What He Wanted To See.
B. We Cannot Have Our Eyes and Hearts In the World and On Spiritual Things at the Same Time.
C. We Must Make A Clear-cut Decison Between the World and Christ.
II. He Failed To See How It Would Effect Others (v. 21)
A. He Was Concerned Only For Himself.
B. He Had No Thought For His Family.
C. He Had No Thought Of Others.
III. He Failed To Listen To and Believe God's Man. (6:16, 18, 19)
A. Joshua Warned of What Would Happen. (6:18)
B. Achan Ignored the Warning.
C. Church Members Today Fail to Heel the Warning of God's Man.
IV. He Failed To Realize That His Sin Would Hinder the Word and Plan of God. (7:4-5)
V. He Failed To Keep His Heart Warm In A Daily Walk With God.
VI. He Failed To Consider The Consequences and the Judgment of God. (7:25)
Conclusion: The sin in one man’s life brought heartache and even death to others. Is one sin worth this. If you have sin in your life, why not confess it before God has to bring judgement for that sin. I challenge you this morning to call out to God to deliver you from the very appearance of evil that you not sin.
