PREFACE
PREFACE
The last two weeks Pastor John has been in the series “Knowledge of the Holy”
Come on who has neared something or been blessed in this series so far? AMEN
This morning we are going to be focusing on Gods self sufficiency
Gods self sufficiency is a lofty term but it just means “God doesn’t need any outside help in satisfying one's basic needs.
Why does it matter if God is self sufficient?
lets answer this by looking at Genesis Chapter 1 Verse 1 it says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
there was nothing before God started creating. If there was nothing that means God used nothing, which in turn means God needs nothing.
If God wasn’t self sufficient needed something he would not have been able to create the universe and therefor would not be God
So it is vital that we understand that God must be self sufficient in order for us to have a proper perspective of him
With that established let’s pray before we dive into Gods word

READ PRIMARY SCRIPTURE (Psalm 129)
English Standard Version Psalm 139
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
12 even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
PERSONAL STORY
PERSONAL STORY
When I was a kid I remember saying my prayers one night and thinking does God sleep?
And in my head I worked out that he doesn’t. But not quite for the right reasons.
I thought He can do anything, which means he can say up past the world wide bedtime everyone has to follow.
and He is always listening to and answering prayers
Now I didn’t quite get the reasoning right, but i did come to the correct answer
And the correct reasoning is Gods self sufficiency.
(Learning there isn’t a world wide bed time helped me realize the reasoning was wrong.)
in our context the the wings of the morning for you might be your morning cup of coffee or energy drink to try and get you through the day
It might be your nightly dessert or TV to try and destress from the crazy day at work.
POINT ONE
God alone is enough
POINT TWO
Gods full of Himself
POINT THREE
Part of God’s self sufficiency is that he doesn’t need anyone to love him.
God loves us, and wants us to love him but He doesn’t need us to love him
God uses us but doesn’t need us to make his will happen
POINT 3. God doesn't need us
I have heard it said that God created us and the angle so he wouldn’t be bored or lonely maybe.
But we know that isn’t true becuase God has always be content in the trinity
(John 17)
God is 3 in 1, He is never alone.
Now all of this sounds kind of harsh, and you might be thinking “But Jed why would God even care about us then” or “man where is the message thats just all about Gods love?”
Will thats where the great news in all of this is.
Becuase God is self sufficient, and doesn’t need us
He is able to love us unconditionally
See I love my girlfriend Alyssa with with all my heart, but sometimes i’m not the best boyfriend, hopefully she would tell you and kinda good.
But there will be times when we are sitting and watching TV or something and she will ask me “How much do you love me”
First few times I got scared. Is this a trick question? Does she seriously not know?
But every time after i poured out my heart about how much I love here and how I would do anything in the world just to show her how much i loved her it was always followed with a “can you rub my shoulders.” or “can you go get me a glass of water.”
Right do I have anyone in this room who can relate?
We have been dating long enough now that when she asks me I reply, so much, but not enough to stop doing whatever it is i’m doing.
my love is at best conditional
But Gods love is unconditional
While we did ___ ____ and ______
God still loved us and Christ died for us.
