In Jesus, All is Forgiven
Tragically, as children of Adam and Eve, you and I and all mankind were born in rebellion against God.
God is holy, and as one of the prophets in the Old Testament testified, God’s “eyes are too pure to look on evil; [he] cannot tolerate wrongdoing” (Habakkuk 1:13)
How can God even stand me to call Him my savior and my reward?
When people receive God’s gift of Jesus, they receive a key benefit—God’s forgiveness: “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7).
What is involved in God’s forgiveness?
God’s forgiveness is complete
Christian, as God’s child, His forgiveness of you is complete because Jesus’ work is completed.
God’s justice was satisfied, and complete forgiveness is yours.
God’s forgiveness is permanent
When it comes to forgiveness, God is not like us.
When He forgives, He also forgets.
Psalm 103:12 says,
When a person thoroughly forsakes their sins, God thoroughly forgives him and remembers his sins no more.
God’s forgiveness is unending
You’ve likely heard the expression “a gift that keeps on giving.”
That perfectly describes God’s forgiveness through His Son.
Whether our sins are few or many, or whether they are big or small, God has forgiven them
God’s forgiveness is to be shared
One of the greatest blessings of God’s forgiveness is the opportunity we have to pass that same mercy on to others
“7 Times no… 70 X 7 times
A willingness to forgive others is a key identifying mark of a true believer.
Forgiveness from God is man’s deepest need, and forgiveness of others is man’s highest achievement.
And such forgiveness should begin in our own home, toward those who are closest to us.
God’s forgiveness is consistent
While it’s true that God forgives sin, it’s also true that He overlooks none.
So when you do sin, you should immediately confess that sin, knowing that God is faithful to extend His forgiveness to us.
That’s what 1 John 1:9 talks about
God’s forgiveness should change you
But we need to be careful we don’t take advantage of His forgiveness and assume He will overlook sin in our lives.
Each act of forgiveness is an opportunity to learn a lesson, and learn how to avoid the same sin in the future.
Not only should we confess every sin as quickly as possible, but we should ask God for His wisdom and strength in resisting sin.
The fact He is faithful to forgive should motivate us toward holy living.
What Does This Mean for You?
Many believers struggle with some sin they think is too big for God to forgive.
If this describes you, remember that God’s grace is bigger than all your sin.
Sure, there may be some fallout you will have to deal with in the aftermath.
Broken relationships are hard to mend.
Broken laws have their just penalties.
Borrowed and mismanaged money must be repaid.
However, God’s cleansing love and forgiveness can see you through any and all consequences.
If you haven’t experienced God’s forgiveness, it all starts with receiving God’s gift—Jesus Christ.
Accept His forgiveness, embrace His mercy, and trust in His powerful promise that His forgiveness is forever.
What a Savior!
