Introduction
God is in Control
We are in a tumultuous time and the future isn’t bright.
It is a great comfort to contemplate God’s steadfast care (Psa.
46:1-2; 91:4; Phil.
4:7).
The comfort comes as we contemplate God’s dominion over all the earth (Psa.
46:10).
We are not very good at being still.
Too much grabs our attention when we are still.
If God’s dominion is to bring us peace, then we must bring ourselves under His dominion.
His dominion comes with destruction (Psa.
46:8-9).
Such was the case for first century Christians (Psa.
46:2; Matt.
21:21).
I Have Some Control
God has told us what He wants (Micah 6:8; Deut.
29:29).
He has told us how to behave towards oppressive governing forces (Rom.
13:1-7; 1 Tim.
2:1-2).
He has told us how to be financially careful (Prov.
30:8-9; 13:11; 27:23; 22:26-27; 11:28).
He has prepared us for every eventuality (Phil.
4:11-13).
Have we submitted ourselves fully to His dominion (Rom.
12:1-2).
Conclusion
Let go and let God is all fine if what you mean is I’m going to do exactly what He said and let Him worry about the rest.
But if you mean, I’m going to go on about my life anyway I choose and God will make all this work just the way I like, then you are living a lie.
Letting go doesn’t just refer to your anxiety.
You have to let go of yourself.
Your plans and your desires must become subservient to Him.
He is a very present help.
His help comes by bringing the world under His dominion.
And it comes FOR those who are already under His dominion.
