Mark 9:1–9 KJV (WS)
And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
I’d Climb The Highest Mountain
INTRODUCTION:
This was the highest peak in the ministry of Jesus!
The Disciples were tired and discouraged!
They wanted the Lord to lead them on the upward way!
The Lord took the three on the Mt. to see His glory!
1. He was transfigured before them:
Revelation 21:13 KJV (WS)
On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
2. Moses and Elias Appeared
So when we are discouraged, Jesus will take us up on the mountain!
I. MT. ARARAT—Genesis 8:14
Genesis 8:14 KJV (WS)
And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
We see
A. The dead—They refused God’s way!
B. The Ark -around it is a rainbow! God remembered Noah on the mountain.
C. The faith of Noah—He offered a sacrifice.
II. MT. HOREB—Exodus 3:1–3
Exodus 3:1–3 KJV (WS)
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
This is where Moses heard the call of God!
It’s wonderful to hear the call of God.
A. This is the Mountain to discover God’s will.
III. MT. CARAMEL—I Kings 18:43–46
1 Kings 18:43–46 KJV (WS)
And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
Elijah faced 850 False Prophets!
A. This is Mt. where the fire falls
IV. MT. MORIAH—Genesis 22:1–14
A. The Mt. that really proves our love for the Lord
V. MT. PISGAH—Deut. 34:1–5
Deuteronomy 34:1–5 KJV (WS)
And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the Lord shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. And the Lord said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord.
Here Moses saw over into the Promised Land!
We see a new vision of this mountain
A. This is the Mt. of victory
VI. MT. CALVARY—Matthew 27:35–36
Matthew 27:35–36 KJV (WS)
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there;
