The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
The Palm Tree Christian
INTRODUCTION:
The Lord likens the Christian unto a palm tree. So let us learn some of the characteristics of the palm tree.
I. THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS UPRIGHTNESS
A. The psalmist asked the question, “Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy Holy Hill?” Then He answers by saying, “He that walketh uprightly.”
B. Christian people should walk uprightly before this wicked generation.
II. THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS FRUITFULNESS
A. John 15—Jesus says, “If we abide in the vine the same shall bring forth fruit.”
B. John the Baptist cried, “Bring forth fruit meet for the repentance.”
III. THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS DURABILITY
A. Jesus said, “My sheep shall never perish.”
B. Paul cried, “Nothing could separate one of God’s children from the love of God.”
IV. THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS CHANGELESS LIFE
A. The palm tree is an evergreen tree.
B. Paul preached to young Timothy by saying, “Be instant in season and out of season.”
V. THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS SMOOTHNESS
A. The palm tree is not a rough knotty tree.
B. Some of us preachers must spend valuable time knocking off dead limbs and knots off some rough shod church members.
VI. THE PALM TREE IS KNOWN FOR ITS MANY USES
A. The palm tree can be used for many different things.
B. Paul said, “I became all things to all people that I might win some.”
VII. THE PALM TREE IS A SYMBOL OF VICTORY
A. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people spread palm branches before the Saviour.
B. John of the Isle of Patmos saw a great company of people on Mt. Zion with palm branches in their hands. These have overcome, sin, hell, Satan, death and the grave.
