Isaiah 9:1 “Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, As when at first He lightly esteemed The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, And afterward more heavily oppressed her, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, In Galilee of the Gentiles.”
Isaiah 9:2 “The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.”
- Isaiah describes the effect the coming Messiah would have on the northern part of Israel.
Jesus was from Galilee
MAtt 4:15-16 ““The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.””
The coming of the Messiah was to be like something that the world has never see.
The Messiah will bring great joy
He will bring great victory.
He would deliver the people from there oppressor.
The prophets message provides information about
-His birth
-role in government
-names
-reign of peace
-just eternal rule on the throne of David.
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
A child is born - speaks about Christ humanity
A Son is give - Christ deity
Unto us - signifies this will be a covenant child from the stock of Israel.
Wonderful - He is exceptional or distinguished.
Wonderful of an extraordinary nature making Him difficult to comprehend.
wonder, miracle, marvelous thing, i.e., an astounding thing which causes a feeling or attitude of intense amazement
This Son will exhibit miraculous acts of God.
PSalm 77:11 “I will remember the works of the Lord; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.”
Memories of the wonders of old spark faith.
When we remember the wonders of old, we go from petition to praise from worry to worship.
When we remember the times we had a relationship restored
Psalm 77:14 “You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the peoples.”
Man has false wonders
The only wonders that man has is the wonders that God has given Him.
Fearfully and wonderfully made.
God gives man his wonderfulness.
Psalm 139:14 “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”
Psalm 89:5 “And the heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints.”
Romans 11:33 “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!”
The plan of salvation to His people is wonderful
Past finding out - in the greek means can’t me traced by footprints.
Gods ways are higher and greater then mans
Eph 3:8 “To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,”
Gods desire is to extend mercy to Israel and mercy to His people. His ways are pass finding out.
Ps. 107:8 “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!”
