3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
People who walked with God
Genesis 5:24 “24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”
Genesis 6:9 “9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.”
Genesis 48:15 “15 And he blessed Joseph, and said: “God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has fed me all my life long to this day,”
God wants to walk with us
Inorder to walk with God we have to totally surrender and yeild our life to God’s terms of agreement.
Luke 14:28 (NKJV)
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—
Luke 14:33 “33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
The specifics of agreeing with God
Inorder walk in agreement with God we have to agree with his word
22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”
24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.
25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.”
26 But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
Soul was anointed of God, and the spirit of God was in him and God was with him and gave him victroy wherever he went because he was in agreement with God’s Word.
When he rejected the word of God, despised and did not as the word of God commanded , he was rejected.
God wen’t in search for someone else who will live in agreement with his word, who will obey it and keep it
He found David.
Samuel anoints David and the spirit falls on him but departs from Saul
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.
For God’s spirit to be with us we have to live in agreement with his word.
We cannot say that God is with us while we are living in disobedience to God’s Word.
What God desires is a willing heart and submisive heart and he will enable you to walk with him.
A person who is not stubborn and if failing to obey God will quickly fall down and repent and amend his way.
We as God’s people must hold God’s word in High regard by keeping it.
Our prayers to be heard we have to live in agreement with God’s Word.
Proverbs 28:9 “9 One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.”
8 Then the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying,
9 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother.
10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.’
11 But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.
12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts.
13 Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen,” says the Lord of hosts.
Example of the agreement
16 “This day the Lord your God commands you to observe these statutes and judgments; therefore you shall be careful to observe them with all your heart and with all your soul.
17 Today you have proclaimed the Lord to be your God, and that you will walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His judgments, and that you will obey His voice.
18 Also today the Lord has proclaimed you to be His special people, just as He promised you, that you should keep all His commandments,
19 and that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to the Lord your God, just as He has spoken.”
Inorder to agree with God we have to agree with his Church
The church has authority with she has received from God.
Matthew 18:15–18 (NKJV)
15 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’
17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
The church’s authority extends even to the point of revoking one’s salvation
This individual was baptised in his name and even filled with his spirit, but by refusing to submit himself to church, he became a heathen and unbeleiver.
35 Paul and Barnabas also remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
36 Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us now go back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing.”
37 Now Barnabas was determined to take with them John called Mark.
38 But Paul insisted that they should not take with them the one who had departed from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work.
39 Then the contention became so sharp that they parted from one another. And so Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus;
40 but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God.
We must not only live in submision to God’s word but also to his Church.
If we are in agreement with God’s Word and his Church, God is with us, he will prosper us and make us fruitful in his precense.
