The word of God has power

It gives life

Deuteronomy 8:3 KJV 1900
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
See also Is 55:2–3; Mt 4:4

It consecrates secular things

1 Ti 4:5 “the word of God and prayer” probably means “scriptural prayer”; i.e., on the basis of scriptural teaching the believer offers thanksgiving and prayer.

It restrains from evil

Ps 17:4; Ps 119:11

It heals and rescues

Psalm 107:20 KJV 1900
He sent his word, and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

It has power to save

James 1:21 KJV 1900
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
See also 2 Ti 3:15; 1 Pe 1:23

It brings about the growth of the kingdom of God

Matthew 13:23 KJV 1900
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

It builds up the saints

Acts 20:32 KJV 1900
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
