The Great Commission is based on the authority of Jesus.
Matt 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
Jesus is King
How does living under the King change our lives?
Our lives must be lived for the King
All Christians are to make disciples
Making disciples means proclaiming the Gospel and the hearer accepting.
It is more than just someone accepting Jesus one time.
Make disciples and baptize.
The Promise
Jesus is with us!
What about Works?
James 2:14-17 “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?
Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
Does that mean faith and works are both required for ultimate salvation?
James 2:19-20 “You believe that God is one; you do well.
Even the demons believe—and shudder!
Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?”
James 2:26 “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.”
How does the idea of Jesus as King and our command to obey him help us understand this idea of good works?
