Everything you do will flow from what is inside you.
Everything you do will flow from what is inside you.
A bunch of different ways of saying it:
“out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.”
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
“Wheres the love?” “Why would that person do that?”
Examples:
War - greed discontentment
Lie - desire within to save face, or for self preservation.
Stealing - desire within.
Sexual immorality - lust within
People act according to what is within them.
You act according to what is within you.
We all act according to what is within us.
Your biggest challenge in life will be leading yourself.
We often focus our effort, on changing external behavior, but actually what needs to change is what’s in the heart.
Classic question for the youth pastor...
“How far is too far?”
What needs to be addressed is not simply the external behavior. What needs to be addressed is the heart.
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?
Why is there so much dissunity, fighting and drama?
You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.
Covet - murder, fights, quarrels.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
You want to know why your prayers aren’t answered, because what’s inside ain’t right.
How do we fix our hearts?
How do we fix our hearts?
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Submit to God.
Draw near to God
Immediate repentance.
Purify your hearts.
