This morning we are starting a new series The Armour of God. During this series we will be going though each one of the piece of the Armour of God and talk about each piece. We will also see why we should use the tools we have.
In the same way someone would not go into battle without equipment or play hockey without a stick, helmet and pads. Christian must put on the armour of God. He has given to withstand evil temptation that come our way. Over the next six weeks We will explain and apply each article in the armour of God. That Paul described in Ephesians 6:10-18.
If you have your bible go head and turn to Ephesians 6:10-18. If not you can follow along on the screen in a few min.
Before we look at this passage I do have a question for you. So think for a moment

Have you ever put on some type of armour?

or protective gear.
Has you are putting on the stuff some times it doesnt feel good right. It can be a little bit cumberson. Sometimes they are difficult to put on and take off. I have alway see guys help other take of the football pads cause they sometime will not come off with force.
Ephesians 6:10–18 CSB
10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. 13 For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. 14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, 15 and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. 16 In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God. 18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

What is the point to putting on the Armour of God?

Do will really have too.? It hard work. Some time we just feel like not doing it right. So what happen when we do not put on the armour of God.
You see the God armour is like this orange here. It protects us for the attack of the devil. It help repel whatever the devil send our way. The water here is the devil and his attacks. We can float and be ok with whatever he though at us.
But if we chose to not put on the armour daily. If we choose to all the devil to start chipping away at us little bit by little by. Something start to happen. Our armour starts to break and the devil comes in and more break off. Soon we have no armour left and we fall. We fall to the bottom and sink.
You see the Armour of God is important with out it we have sin in our life and cant do what God is calling us to do. We will miss out on some much that he has for us. Over the next 5 week we will be talking about each part. For the rest of this morning we will be talking about the first piece of the armour.

The Belt of Truth

why do you think that Paul put this first and not say the helmet? We use belt now to help keep our pants up but thats not what they were used for in Roman times. A belt in ancient times didn’t exist to hold your pants up. A soldier would belt up his skirt so he could easily run and fight without tripping on it. The belt allowed you to be ready for action.
How does the belt get us ready?
John 8:31–36 CSB
31 Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 “We are descendants of Abraham,” they answered him, “and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will become free’?” 34 Jesus responded, “Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 A slave does not remain in the household forever, but a son does remain forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.

The truth is you are a sinner

Im an sinner and we all are slave to that sin. These sin is what cause you and I to sink to the bottom of the pitcher.
In order to get healthy and lose weight, we have to eat right and exercise. We can’t simply close our eyes while we eat chocolate cake, expecting the calories to disappear. You can’t just eat foods that start with the letter “H” (for healthy) or eat cake in the shape of a banana. There’s only one way to get health right.
In the same way

There is only one way to be set free

and that the truth about Jesus. That He died on the cross for you and that he rose on the third day. So you do not have to face death. You can have life eternal with him. Away for all pain and problem.

The truth of Jesus set us free

in a world filled with a lot of wrong ideas about who or what will save you, having the truth of Jesus will set you free.
this is why Paul add this first you see. We have to believe in the truth before we can ever put on the rest of the armour. We have to believe in the truth of Jesus before we can be set free.

Have you but on the belt of truth?

Do you need to refresh your truth?
