A Legecy of Pleasing God

With tomorrow being Memorial Day, when we remember those who have gone before us. Many of us will place flowers and share good meals to keep alive the memory of those who have transitioned.

What do you wan’t them to say about you when you die? What do you imagine they would say about you, when you die? Over the years I’m sure that you, like me, have heard it all. When we get that two minutes to share, I’ve heard a lot of things. People are remembered for, being good cooks, people are remembered for being well dressed. I’ve known people to be remembered as good fighters. Athletes, Father, Preacher, and the list goes on. I get it. This is great stuff to remember about people we love and want to remember as they left those defining memories. The ones I look forward to however, are the testimonies that they lived a life serving God. That they lived a life serving other people, doing some good in the lives of their neighbors. These are the ones i love to hear, and these are the memories that I hope to one day have said about me. What do you wan’t them to say about you?

Martin Luther King said, ““If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter.”

More importantly, what do you wan’t Jesus to say about you?

Jesus called Able righteous in Matthew 23, and it was he who said Enoch pleased God.

Between these two men of faith, we see a commonality about their life and legacy. They were both received by God. They both pleased God with their faith, that although they are not longer on the earth, their legacy is.

1. What are You Offering?

“By Faith...” is always the thrust in this chapter and thus, this sermon series. What Able did, wasn’t by performance, meaning he did it better because it looked better. What Able did wasn’t by resource, meaning he had it to give. What he did, was in faith. There is a lot of speculation as to why God received Abel and his offering and despised Cain and his offering.

Is it your best?

Is it righteous? (What is your reason for offering?)

2. How is Your Walk?

Enoch was so pleasing to God that the didn’t see death. God just took him up, picked him up. We know so little about this man’s life that we don’t know how, or what, about his dealings but we know at least two things, “[he] walked with God.” & “…he was pleasing to God.”

3. What are you Seeking?

If you are going to leave a lasting legacy of being pleasing to God, your motivation must be God. Do not seek to build a legacy, see the God who testify about you and a solidify your legacy.

Without faith, you can not please God.
