Entice:
Heaven.
It is what we long for.
Yet, we do not long for it    in isolation and we do not long for it outside of the experience of the salvation which we already share in Jesus.
Heaven is not so much a physical place as it is an extended, eternal relationship with Jesus.
Anyone who longs for heaven must first find satisfaction in Jesus.
The Gospel,
the good news
is that
Jesus Himself makes this possible.
Engage: In Revelation 21 we share a vision which is often mischaracterized.
We know the terms but dislocate them.
The then and there of heaven begins with the here and now of the Church
Expand: The tension we feel as Christians feel is real, it is tangible.
We are suspended between now and not yet.
We share a salvation which is both realized on this side of eternity and reserved for the other side.
Ever since our father Abraham went looking for that city whose architect and builder is God we, who have walked by faith, have been buffeted by the things of earth whilst borne along on the wings of faith.
John reminds us that we are the bride prepared for Jesus.
Heaven is the place where the Lord and His Lady share an eternity of rest.
The final throne vision, found in Revelation 22 reminds us that
He is all we need
and that
to be
in His presence
paradise restored.
Excite: So, yes we anticipate heaven, but we walk with Him now.
We look forward to eternal rest, but now we engage in necessary service.
When we catch John's vision it sustains us through our life until we finally gather around Christ’s throne and enjoy eternally what we have shared here, if only in part.
Explore:
There is no heaven apart from Jesus
Explain: John brings things to a close urging us to gather once more around the throne
Body of Sermon: because…
The Throne Sustains us.
The River
The Tree
The Throne Attracts us.
To Worship The Lamb.
To Serve the Lamb.
to see His face
to wear His name
The Throne Illuminates us.
No night
No Luminaires.
Pure redeeming presence.
Shut Down:
Thrice more Jesus Speaks.
First, Jesus reminds us, in view of His appearing to be mindful listeners
Next, He speaks words of warning.
Finally, Our Lord's last words in scripture, remind us who He is.
Eternity has begun!
Once that tomb was opened, once He ascended on high, once He sat upon the throne, heaven is open for business.
The bride will meet Him there, fully and entirely one day.
I wonder,
will you be there?
The spirit, and the Bride say...come!
