SLIDE 1 “GOD’S WORD” Image Slide
What brought me to my encounter with Jesus
SLIDE 2
John 1:1 NASB95
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
SLIDE 3
John 1:2 NASB95
2 He was in the beginning with God.
SLIDE 4
WORD (logos)
sayings of God
decree, mandate or order
moral precepts
John 1 also says He Jesus the Word is the Light of men
This Lights shines into the darkness
The Spirit of God works through the Word of God
Genesis 1 the earth was void and without form
It is The Lord’s desire to always move His word in us through His Spirit
God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth John 4 24
Let’s take a look at what king David wrote about God’s word
SLIDE 5
Psalm 19:7 NLT
7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
This Psalm tells us God’s word is what? Perfect and trustworthy
What does it say here His word does? Revives the soul (NASB uses restores the soul)
SLIDE 6
SOUL (nephesh)
inner being of man / heart
desire , emotion, passion, appetite
the seat of emotions
Lets see another example here in Luke the 8th chapter
Jesus has just been teaching His word for days around the Galilee area
Preaching to the crowds and telling them not to hide their light (put our light to use in this dark world) the more of God’s light we desire and use the more that will be given.
If we just hang on to the first portion and no desire to increase, Jesus said even that will be taken away.
It was reported to Him that His mother and brothers were there and wished to see Him, His answer was “who are my mother and brothers? They are those who hear my word nd do it”
So lets see an example through this story setting how “the soul” the seat of emotions” needs to be restored by the word of God
SLIDE 7
Luke 8:22 (NASB95)
22 Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out.
SLIDE 8
Hebrews 4:12 (NASB95)
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
