Matthew 13:24-30 “He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ””
Notice that there are two sowers here. Two seeds, two sowers. The ground in which the seed is being sown is the world. The first sower, the first man is Jesus. Notice that He ha possession of the world. He said “A man who sowed seeds in his field.” Jesus owns this world, and everything in it. He has since the beginning of time.
Centuries ago God created the earth. He created a lush, massive garden and He placed Adam and Eve inside. Sometime during the process of time there was an angel who’s name was Lucifer. Lucifer mean’s “bearer of light” or “morning star.” Lucifer was beautiful to behold. It is speculated that Lucifer was in charge of orchestrating the worship of God within heaven. He was the choir master you could say. He was the most beautiful angel, and he was given the most lofty job. All of that power went to his head, however. I looked at himself higher than the other angels and he thought “why should I not be worshiped along with God? Why is it that I am so glorious as well, but no one is bringing me glory?” Ezekiel 28:15-18 “You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you. In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries; so I brought fire out from your midst; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you.”
The devil was cast out of heaven, and the only place he could go was earth. The devil is bitter, and he is petty. The devil wants to take down anyone that he can. This is why he tempted Eve, and brought damnation to the entire human race. He is going down, and he does not want to go down alone. Misery loves company, and the devil wants a crowd in hell.
The only way out of hell is to be saved by the one who started things off right in the first place. Jesus came to this earth, which is His, and lived the perfect life that you and I never could, and sacrificed that life to pay the price that you and I could never pay. All the while He was telling His story of salvation. Jesus traveled from town to town, city to city, countryside to countryside, telling His gospel. Then one day He gave up His life, and 3 days later He raised Himself from the dead, and He fulfilled His promises. He completed His gospel, and one day soon He is going to come back and we will live in peace and harmony with Him.
This is what the parable is talking about. Jesus is sowing the gospel. He is planting His good seed in the ground, and He is raising up wonderful men and women from the products of the gospel.
The devil is also going along and sowing seeds as well. He is sowing doubt, and anger, and bitterness, and hate. It is taking root and growing as well.
Two different seeds, two different products. You might say “why does God not just step in and end it all?” Because there are still men and women who are coming to the gospel. If Jesus came back right now there are many men and women who would not have had the opportunity to change their lives, but it is coming. This is why Jesus is waiting until the perfect moment. He is the Good Father, the Master of the Harvest. He knows when the right time is to come back. I want to ask you, which seed is growing within you right now. If you are the plant growing, what will your actions look like when they are fully ripe? Would you look like the good seed that the Lord planted, or the weed that the devil has sown.
I want you guys to know that I love you with every fiber of m being, but I see a lot of weeds that need to be plucked out. You friends, you language, your content online and in person. You have let a lot of weeds sneak in and they are choking out the good fruits in your life. Ask the Lord to do some pruning, and come back to good side. Come back to the child that God wanted you to be, because in a lot of ways right now, this is not it.
Let me end here with a glimpse of what will happen to the devil.
Isaiah 14:3-19“When the Lord has given you rest from your pain and turmoil and the hard service with which you were made to serve, you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: “How the oppressor has ceased, the insolent fury ceased! The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of rulers, that struck the peoples in wrath with unceasing blows, that ruled the nations in anger with unrelenting persecution. The whole earth is at rest and quiet; they break forth into singing. The cypresses rejoice at you, the cedars of Lebanon, saying, ‘Since you were laid low, no woodcutter comes up against us.’ Sheol beneath is stirred up to meet you when you come; it rouses the shades to greet you, all who were leaders of the earth; it raises from their thrones all who were kings of the nations. All of them will answer and say to you: ‘You too have become as weak as we! You have become like us!’”“Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the sound of your harps; maggots are laid as a bed beneath you, and worms are your covers. “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.” “Those who see you will stare at you and ponder over you: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?’ All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb; but you are cast out, away from your grave, like a loathed branch, clothed with the slain, those pierced by the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit, like a dead body trampled underfoot.”
Do not end up like him. Be different.
