Moses Background

Hebrew boy saved by his mother, rescued by Pharaoh's Daughter
Grows up in Pharoh’s household - treated like a prince
Sees mistreatment of Hebrew slave and murders an Egyptian
Heads to Midian for 40 years, gets married, has 2 sons, becomes a shepherd
Pharoh dies and the Hebrews cry out to God for relief
While tending the flocks he comes to this bush.

Text Explanation

God hears the Cries of his people and feels compassion
He appears via a bush to Moses
Moses and God
10 therefore, go. I am sending you
11 But Moses asked God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
Chapter 4 Moses will have other objections
2 assurances:
I am with you and you will return her to worship (here being Sinai)
